Connie26 33 Posted June 1, 2013 So I just met my lap band surgeon... I usually meet with the physicians assistant bc I go on Saturdays... He goes "why are you here you're skinny!" Ugh no I'm not and now I'm nervous they won't approve it! It's like yea I may be skinny compared to your patients but I'm not skinny! By any stretch of the imagination! :-/ rough morning... CHEZNOEL 4,061 Posted June 1, 2013 What is your BMI? Maybe he just wanted you to feel better? It is important in my opinion to have a good relationship with the surgeon. If your makes you uncomfortable, may try a different doctor in the practice? Just a thought! Good luck! 4 ☠carolinagirl☠, BayougirlMrsS, stept04 and 1 other reacted to this
labwalker 1,177 Posted June 1, 2013 I wouldn't read anything negative into his comments. Regarding the surgery, that will depend on your BMI and whether your insurance covers you or not. Some insurances require a co-morbidity for BMI under 40. The only reason most doctors won't do surgery would be related to your cardio, upper GI or bloodwork results. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
Terry Poperszky 2,784 Posted June 1, 2013 Don't sweat it, many Dr.'s and surgeons in particular have really off beat sense of humors. 5 ☠carolinagirl☠, dfeickert25, labwalker and 2 others reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted June 1, 2013 You may appear skinny compared to the 40+ BMI patients these surgeons see every week. I wouldn't be concerned with getting approved since it's up to the insurance company if you qualify. The doctor doesn't make any money if he doesn't perform surgery. 2 labwalker and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
cat whisperer 127 Posted June 1, 2013 I actually had a couple of comments like that from my lapband "team" of professionals... the psychologist told me that I should be prepared that the weight may come off more slowly for me as I am such a "small" woman!! LOL have not associated the word "small" with myself for a very long time... also one of the nurses said something similar... but at the same time, I am having health problems because I am carrying around a lot of extra weight!! and the rest of the world certainly doesn't think I'm small!! In any case, here I am and I got the surgery good luck to you 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

RwSample 17 Posted June 2, 2013 I am 5'5" and was 235 at my last weigh in. I am type 2 diabetic and have high blood pressure, sleep apnea. I'm looking to have lap band surgery in September. Sadly no one has called me skinny and I wouldn't buy it if they did. I'm not able to wear my size 16s and don't have many 18s in the closet. I cannot wait to get started with the weight loss. I have first meeting with a personal trainer on monday. Just signed up at the gym too...... 2 2muchfun and sweets27 reacted to this
Connie26 33 Posted June 2, 2013 Same with pants for me too... 16s are tight and 18s are big... Or they just look awful - either way I hate wearing anything other than sweat pants lol
turner72560 4 Posted June 2, 2013 I have the exact same stats! 234 lb with a BMI of 37. I get banded on June 25. I haven't seen the surgeon yet. My consultation is June 17. I am counting the days!
utkscvol1 125 Posted June 2, 2013 You have the same stats as me that's awesome! What are your comorbitities? I had hypertension, had labs drawn in jan that showed high triglycerides, and pcos. According to my insurance I only needed 1 comorbidity. But I had 3 off of their list. We should stay in touch:)
