Should I be concerned...

Recommended Posts

Earlier this week I had a really bad experience with a Fill. Long story short, they couldn't find the port.. Keep poking and prodding around causing extreme pain. Since then every time I eat, I feel pains around the site of my port, which seems odd to me. Should I be concerned and should I have it checked out?

Try not to worry, but yes, I would have it checked out. But more importantly, can you switch to someone else to give you the fill? I sure hope it wasn't your surgeon. It shouldn't hurt to get a fill. Good luck.

I get my fills through true results, not my surgeon. So I haven't let him know yet about the fill and how it went.

I don't know if true results is around here, don't really know about it, but to put your mind at ease, a docs reassurance may be worth while.

Same thing happened to me at true results. After about the 5th poke, she decided to do an xray. I went for my first fill on May 16 and although it doesn't hurt anymore, its still swollen :/

I would ask for a fill with fluoro.... the hunt and peck method sounds barbaric!

Good Luck!

Thanks y'all. I have asked for fluro, they keep putting it off saying next time, but I think I'll demand it this time!

I also get my fills through True Results and so far only 2 people there have been concerned about the discomfort the fills cause and have been able to do it without causing me pain. I don't know what they are doing but normally it only takes one stick, but it really hurts! One person who gave me a fill did a great job, causing me no discomfort and when I told her that she asked if anyone had offered to numb the area for me (which no one had) and then when I got my last fill on May 23, the person that did it had to stick my twice leaving me very sore. I had to return a week later on May 30 to have Fluid removed for an upcoming surgery and I was still sore, so the person I saw this last time was kind enough to numb the area before sticking me. I don't like to complain and don't want to seem like a baby, but I'm going to start asking them to numb the area first. They always have me complete a survey asking if I want to see the same practitioner again, and I always answer yes, but that hardly ever happens. What's up with that?

Exactly! I'm not 100% satisfied with true results! They keep telling me we will do the fluro and then never do it. I haven't been x-rayed since the day of surgery. I'm getting rather fed up with them. I always get numbed before a fill, so even being numbed this lady was causing crazy pains. Pains that felt like I was being electrocuted and I swear she hit my ribs with the needle at one point. I'm just super frustrated!

Well, my experience has not been as bad as yours. Yes, several of my fills have been uncomfortable, but not really horrible. There's no way they could have hit your ribs, though with where the port is placed and the size needles they use. Correct me if I'm wrong but they usually use a butterfly (very small and fine) and then attach the syringe to the small tubing on the butterfly. It is painful if they catch the port on the edge of it rather than in the middle and they usually have to re-stick you when that happens. The staff has been very supportive, friendly and helpful to me. I learn something new each time I go. If I were you I would tell them you don't want to see whoever it was that caused you all of that pain. I just tell myself, "No pain, no gain or loss, I mean!" Hopefully your fill experience will get better! :)

Yeah no, they don't use a butterfly needle there's no way they could hit the port with a butterfly needle, that's crazy! If they use one on you, then your port has to be right under the skin, I can't feel my port unless I put some pressure and push around. They use a regular size needle as if you were getting a shot, they did say they use a longer needle for me to reach my port.

Also, not everyone's ports are in the same place, my moms is up high closer to where the stomach is located, mine is way down low, closer to my belly button.

Oh and hitting the rib, was me making a joke! I'm just saying she pushed so hard and so deep that hitting rib could be possible haha! Anyways, thanks for the help peeps! I'm calling my surgeon Monday just to see what he thinks!

Good luck mandysha!

I've never understood why the ports are put in so many different places.

Just read an article in People today that NJ's governor's port is on his side. Mine is center, right under the bra band. And I mean right under!! I feel itbelow the surface easily.

Well, my surgeon gives me all my fills. He has his NP assist him and she does the numbing and he never let's me see the needle lol. When I was post op after my port revision he withdrew over 16 oz of Fluid out of me and I saw the syringe from the fill and I was glad he gave me the fill before I saw the needle lol. I'm due for a fill on 6/17 and I'm trying to prepare myself. I have a very high pain tolerance but that needle was really big lol!i'm hoping I hit the green zone.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
