makemeova36 23 Posted May 31, 2013 I am excited to get home to my kids. I really haven't needed pain meds since yesterday right after surgery. I have been noticing that my port is located in the upper left quadrant below my breast. It is kind of sticking out. I'm worried it will be noticeable and make me self conscious. I was wondering if maybe it is just swollen and will go down, but I'm not sure. My doctor says don't worry about it, but I can't stop thinking about it. ☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted May 31, 2013 heck i didnt know for sure if i had one as much fat as i had on my stomach..and even asked my surgeon, are you sure you put the band in me? i sure dont care if it sticks out or not right now as i am in process of losing..i see it as a little reminder that i have a friend helping me get healthy. ...dont fret right now, you may come to see its not visable at all..after surgery, my tummy was swollen for about a month...it will go down. 3 CHEZNOEL, makemeova36 and labwalker reacted to this
labwalker 1,177 Posted May 31, 2013 I was far more self conscious about the weight ... a small bulge for the port would be a minor inconvenience for me. But I guess most of us guys are less concerned about those things. I also noticed my port seems to be moving as the belly fat goes down. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
NJshoregirl♥ 9 Posted May 31, 2013 Everyone is different, but my port has never been noticeable unless you feel around for it. Even when I was pregnant, I read horror stories about it popping out like the cooking timer on a turkey and I was SO terrified. Never happened! 3 ☠carolinagirl☠, labwalker and makemeova36 reacted to this
CHEZNOEL 4,061 Posted May 31, 2013 I am sure that you are still swollen right now. Worry about healing, and the port will recede as you lose weight. 1 makemeova36 reacted to this

I'm sure many of us wondered the same thing when we felt the port for the first time. 2 NJshoregirl♥ and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

Good to know it moved that would freak me out down the line lol. Thanks for the tips
Jam2009 3 Posted May 31, 2013 I had my surgery in May 2009 and my port does stick out a little and is noticeable. However, I use it as my war medal against obesity and when (and if) people ask me about it is easily explained and accepted. Sometimes I am even proud to show it off and, as your doctor states, don't worry about it. You are going to be more impressed with the weight loss in a few months! labwalker 1,177 Posted May 31, 2013 I think the movement is an illusion. The port is usually sutured to the muscle below the skin. I think it is stays fixed to the muscle, but the as our bellies go down the skin position over the port is what shifts. Just a wild guess and assumption on my part. I should as my APRN on my next visit. I'm making a list of questions to bring in. 1 taylor1989 reacted to this
makemeova36 23 Posted May 31, 2013 Thanks everyone for your reply. I feel better about it now. For the record I think I'm just concerned because I haven't really told anyone about it except my sister her husband, my cousin, and my boyfriend. I know the most important thing is the weight loss and I will keep that in mind. I'm the type of person that worries about everything. I'm just going to woo sah and focus on my weight loss. Scorpio Girl 88 Posted May 31, 2013 I have a friend whose port really became prominent as he lost. It's hard to tell how yours will be until swelling goes down. Mine is not visible at all, but I have a realize band.
