Yea I had my surgery Tuesday and I feel the exact same way, when I drink I feel like a blow fish.is in my upper stomach. Was even wondering if I could stretch my pouch, but everybody is saying they felt the same. I guess it is like you said gas and Fluid. It is very uncomfortable. It was hard to get all my Protein in but I finally am, 80 mg, Protein drinks of course.:) Good luck with your recovery.

IT's gas and the air...walk when you can even if it is just down your hallway and back to the bed/couch...it definitely helps release the gas. Burp as much as you can!!!

I could not hardly get anything down the day of the surgery, but I did the next day. But like I was saying it was uncomfortable. If your protein drinks are a clear Fluid, like mine I mix with a cup of water and they are like a juice. I think it counts as a fluid. If they are straight up milky I don't know. Seems to me if you add any water that water would count.

Hey Steph i was thinking about what u said about the fear of all this bloating and gas mixed with Fluid intake stretching the pouch. I dont think thats possible because....the liquid passes through in approx. 15-20 min. Or so and if your like me sipping little bits at a time 1/2 of my 4 oz chix broth has passed down before i get the 2nd part done. Not sure this is accurate but it makes sense. If it was food i think thats diffetent because it sets longer in the small area. Just my take;)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
