Hi Everyone!

I had my surgery for LB on May 6th. I had a serious complication called Ileus, (trapped gas in intentines)which required me to stay in the hospital for three days after surgery with a NG tube down to my stomach! I am three weeks post op and I still have severe bloating in my stomach. For example today I ate Carnation instant Breakfast (SF) for Breakfast, 4 oz of tuna fish for lunch and 4 oz of creamed spinach for dinner. Thats All I could get in. My stomach tonight looks like I am 7 months pregnant! I have not lost any more weight since my second week. (total 10lbs) I am barely eating, but definitely getting my Water in. Has anyone else experience this?

i also have severe bloating and gas...when I get up in the am, I am nice and flat...by the end of my first coffee, I'm already bloated...feels like I have a big elastic band around my upper stomach and called it a "fake full".. I felt so full after eating a tiny amount but it was full of gas but as soon as I would release the gas, I would get hungry. The doctor's office told me today that it should eventually go away so I hope so for us that are stuck with that..

Extremely gassy since getting banded. Like I became lactose intolerant. But I wasn't before, so it must be something else.

Hello , I'm new to this forum but wanted to respond to your physical discomfort. I'm so sorry you experienced an Ilius. When I was banded in April 2010 I had no surgical pain but I had so much pain from being bloated that I can identify with what you are going through. Your discomfort is due to the gas use to inflate your abdomen during surgery, since it was done Laproscopically, as I sure you already know. It took a little over 3 weeks to be reabsorbed into my system and I still remember the pain under my rib cage. I did what was instructed, and walked constantly, first around my house, and then slowly outside. Walking prevents blood clots in your legs for instance, but also helps move the gas through the circulatory system as it becomes reabsorbed. I feel you are over the worst of it by now and I wish you the best of luck on your weight loss journey.

Thanks to all of your responses! It is always good to hear feedback from others going through similar issues. I do feel better everyday and I did a 2 mile walk today. I am going to stay away from milk products to see if this helps. It seems I am also lactose intolerant. Good luck to all of you...good news...down 2 more lbs today!!!!!

Think I may also be lactose intolerant. Glad you're feeling a little better. Can anyone tell me a legitimate website for Protein, calorie amounts of food. I'm having difficulty trying to reach my 20 gms protein in only 1/2 servings. Is there a good list that anyone uses? Also how can I get a weight tracker like the ones I've seen in the Forum?

Try skipthepie.org

I've found it to be quite useful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
