Had my post op visit today and ended up in tears. I am three weeks out, my appointment was bumped twice last week because my surgeon was stuck in surgery. She weighed me and I have lost 5 pounds since day of surgery. It was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping for more.

I know that is still good, the avg of 1-2 pounds per week. My clothes are all getting big and my blood pressure is the best it's ever been. I've even stopped one of my blood pressure meds. So why the hang up with the number on the scale??

Met with the nutritionist as well. She says I am doing everything I am supposed to. Drinking the Water, getting the Protein, exercising. She reminds me that the band is about slow, steady and able to maintain weightloss.

So why do I feel like I have failed? It reminds me of my divorce.....in my head I know it was the right thing, but my heart is still having trouble catching up. I know not to compare myself to others and to treasure my successes. I didn't gain it all overnight, why would I expect to lose it so quickly.

The emotions are on overdrive today. Trying to stay focused and not let the head hunger games take over. Have to wait 3 more weeks for my first fill.

I completely understand! I am 9 weeks post-op, and had my second fill yesterday. I've lost about 15 pounds since surgery but I feel it should be more!

However, I have to remember that if I hadn't had surgery, I would not have lost anything. I also have to remember that I'm losing inches and gaining energy.

I think it's normal to feel this way ... You're doing a great job! Don't get discouraged :-)

For me the most important numbers are the inches.

When I was losing I only got weighed in once a month with my family doctor and when I went for a fill. I had 4 fills in total.

I got weighted and measured every month by family doctor. This really kept me motivated and on track. I don't own a scale. I found I lost inches very fast. I only plateaued 2 months in a row. I still get weighed every month.

Hang in there !! Don't worry about the number on the scale.< /p>

I just bought a pair of Levi jeans on the weekend... size 30... Slim Fit... the day of my surgery I worn a size 54.

Many of us have posted similar frustrations....including me. The wise bandster's that went before me really helped me understand that PATIENCE is key. Keep bringing the effort, staying within your calories allotted, play by the rules and you will get results. One thing the bandster's before me pointed out was that I had to get the thought of losing weight quickly out of my head. It's not that kind of surgery and things would progress slowly...but progress nonetheless. Your clothes are loose......progress/success! Congrats!

Patience is the key! Don't set expectations. Just let it come!

I totally understand your feelings

I am 9.5 months out and "only" lost 60 lbs

Of course I was hoping to lose like 10 lbs per month, as some other bandsters on here reported, but lets face it, any loss is a HUGE success!

One pound at a time....

I think you are doing great. Realize this is a life style change. You are learning habits you will need to maintain for the rest of your life. I got banded 11/09 and lost 107 pounds in 10 months. I stuck to a low carb/ low fat eating regime religiously. I worked out lots. Now the bad part, I have gained about half of that weight back in the last year and a half or so. Went back to my old habits and it just spiraled out of control. I am struggling to get back on track. I have had a good 3 days, a small step, but something. I am now eating healthy carbs and good fats and don't feel so deprived. I am eating the way I know I should eat for the rest of my life, at least 90% of the time anyway. I know the weight loss will be slower- but hopefully it will be forever.

Thanks everyone! I weighed myself a couple of times the first week post op and told myself at that time I didn't want to become a slave to the scale. So hadn't stepped on it until the doctor's appointment today. I've been pretty hungry the last couple of days and at that moment (stepping on the scale) , it felt like the "other diets" I'd been on. My nurse and nutritionist were very supportive and encouraging. I know good things take time, it's just the little demon sitting on my shoulder telling me otherwise!

So glad that I found this site to hear what others are going through as well. It's just me and the kids at home, no one to talk to about it. My teenagers are assupportive as they can be, but don't really understand it.

Don't get obsessed with the scale because it is just not going to help. You are doing well and you should be proud of yourself. My surgeon says that I should be losing 1-2 pounds a week and that it is the healthy way to lose the weight and keep it off. You are doing great!!!

Don't get down on yourself. Everybody loosing differently. I am 4 months post op and have lost about 55 pounds. I need to throw the scale away or put it out in the garage. I know better than get weighed every day,but I still do it. Get my second fill next week. Have gone 10 weeks without a fill due to a plane trip and PA did not want to fill before my trip. Glad he did not do it as the band tightened in flight to AZ and I only did liquids for the first day of my vacation.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
