Perfect eating day and scale goes up???

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else experienced this? Yesterday I had the perfect eating day after a weekend completely off the wagon and actually now weigh 2 lbs more than I did yesterday! Wtf! Has anyone experienced this? Are the weekend transgressions showing up on my body now? Ugh...I was hoping for at least a bit of instant gratification by way of like half a pound...but gain? I only had about 700 calories yesterday!

The scales are not an instantaneous reward system. This is why many people recommend not weighing daily. String a few more of those perfect days together and I will bet you see results.

This sometimes is the way it is. Plus remember if you ate anything high in sodium you could have extra Water weight. Then ask yourself have you pottied.

Some many things effect that number. I jumped Tuesday- Monday I was 188.7 and Tuesday 190.5- WTH- but it is right before aunt flow show up so, maybe that is it.

I experience a four or five pound variation day-to-day, and that is taking my weight first thing in the morning and just before bed. Just watch the new "lows." They are a better indicator of where you are heading. So long as you see a new low weight over a period of time, you can be pretty confident that you are losing. Temporary Water weight gain is common. Just taking a shower will leave me with extra weight until the skin dries out.

I like to weigh myself every day but you have to really look at it at more of a week by week measure. I had two candy bars yesterday and went down. On the flip side, I have had 'great' days and gained. It's amazing how much little things can affect our scale day to day such as salt intake, liquid intake, exercise, bowel movements, etc. Don't get discouraged because you thought you were 'good' one day and the scale went up.

One last thought, make sure what you think is a 'good' day really is a good day. I found that when I was trying to eat 'healthy' by eating fruits, oatmeal, and granola, I was actually overdoing it on carbs and gaining weight.

This is so helpful. I thought it was only me with noticing the "lows" going down!!! Totally agree, I need to string many of those good days together :) also as someone mentioned I totally never lose eating a lot of carbs. I'm sticking to veggie burgers and sashimi (just the fish no rice) a scrambled egg at breakfast...my only carb is a mission low carb tortilla with laughing cow spread around 4pm. Will keep the good days comin!

Good luck.. I've noticed this too but I'm trying to not let it effect my mood and just use it as more motivation

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
