I have had the band for two months now. Is there any type of food that I should stay away from at this point. I have been eating almost anything except pork.

Junk foods, high in calories, and ones that easily pass through the band. Milkshakes, potato chips, birthday cake... mostly empty calories with little nutritional value.

Your doctor should have given you a list of foods to avoid and a time period before introducing others. Some of us can eat anything, but a lot of folks will get stuck on common foods. It depends on your band, amount of fill, and your own body as to what foods you can tolerate or not... my nemesis is frozen meatballs with little filler. They go through the band very slowly and I try to avoid them.

As previously posted, we need to avoid "slider foods" which usually have little nutritional value. Slider foods are those which can be swallowed with little to no chewing.

I've become very focused on reading nutrition labels so I know the nutritional value of everything I eat. There are hidden carbs everywhere, and I try to avoid them.

I also avoid processed foods to the best of my ability, and eat most meals at home so I can control and know what I am eating.

I still cannot tolerate any stringy fruits or vegetables such as pineapple, celery, or asparagus.

We are all individuals, so we will have different tolerances for what foods we can eat.

Best rule for me to follow has been high quality lean Protein and healthy Fiber carb choices.

Best wishes to you on your journey...

If one assumes you mean, what will the band reject, the answer is, it's different for every bandster. You may be fine with breads where someone else isn't. Dry meats seem to be the most cited food that travels poorly from mouth to stomach. Rice, lettuce, doughy breads are also cited regularly. But, you'll find out soon enough which ones are acceptable.

If your question is about what foods to avoid so you lose weight, it's like Labwalker said. Junk foods, fatty foods, high simple carb foods, overly processed foods, most fast foods. These are all no brainers of course, but most of us still allow ourselves a little indulgence occasionally. A slice of pizza, a scoop of ice cream or an occasional cheeseburger can keep me sane for a long time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
