Look at the pre op & post op diet to make sure what u can have if u want to be sucsefful ,it is hard since u r so new so just make the choice for u and yes u still can be sociable but don't over do it and I didn't go out to dinner for about 2-3 months or even eat a whole meal for a while cause I didn't want anything to go wrong as I paid way to much money to get the way I did and to get the weigh that I had put on off (banded) lol so it is your choice, just remember why u wanted to get the band , hope this helped.

I was also banded on the 24th :) I'm not to have anything other than "full liquids" at this stage... I could not even imagine having solid foods yet! If I were you, I'd make sure to check the post op diet plan and follow it... You don't wanna hurt yourself while healing. According to my plan it takes 3-4 weeks to be back on a regular diet.

Take your time and best of luck!

I'd stay away from Gummy foods (breads, tortillas, etc). You can go to social outings, of course. If you aren't sure about something, get a tiny portion and eat SLOW. when I was learning, I'd eat a food and think "that went down good", then five minutes later be stuck. Lol. It's a learning experience for sure. And everyone is different. Like I said while you're learning... Small portions, small bites. Chew a lot.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
