Hi All; I'm back! I had my first series of spinal injections this morning. I was scared going in, but after sedation it wasn't that bad. It may be 2-4 days before I feel the full benefit of the Cortisol, but the epidural into the pinched nerve has helped a lot already.

Six days to go! Woo Hoo! I am very excited about getting my band. My back, work, and church activities have kept my mind occupied; so the pre-op diet has largely been a breeze for me. I can't wait to see you all "on the other side"! :biggrin1:

It's back to work tomorrow ... oh joy. :bored

TTFN; love you all!

I just wanted to point out we only have a few more hours until May is over and this thread is retired. Tomorrow my princess finishes and graduates pre k - she's heading to kindergarten. Now if I could get big kid out of college, we'd be one happy, educated family. Just kidding, but he should be done this year.

Wavy - as long as dr b has the paperwork to get you approved your cool.

By the way, they do not NEED the psych or nutrionist notes to apply for the insurance, they just need your medical records from your dr's office stating your comorbidities and your weight history to support the BMI info.

Then your good to go. I remember my approval moved quickly, I think it took at most 5 days for the preapproval. You will be fine. I was anxious about it too. I decided to do straight RNY though. I figure if I wanted the band I could change before surgery was scheduled.

Patience Ladies - Patience.

Karen - Your Awsome. Your big day will be here soon. I'm so happy you kept your faith and moved forward with the process.

JT

Jennifer oh my you are going to be educated household. Your daughter is just beautiful...I am so glad I finally got to meet her.

Karen - go glad you are moving along. Girl it will be here before you know it. I am so excited for you...

Wavy be careful because when I submit clinical info to the insurance I have to always to submit the psych, nutrition and TSH level. Some companies require a 3 - 5 year weight history and some require 3 visits to psych, nutrition, fitness...so each company is different but the first 3 things are required by all companies or it will be denied. Belive me that is the first thing I learned. :) What insurance do you have and I can check to see what is needed...I will say Jennifer is correct in saying they don't "need" it always for UHC. I submitted one last week by calling and starting the claim the next thing I know it was approved and I didn't even send any clinical info...gotta love those approvals.

Ok so I need to say I love this group also - I have been reading some of the threads out there and WOW it's deep out there. When I tell people at work about the the site - I tell them to ignore the main pages and come right to the NC threads. No kidding I tell them there are some good threads and some bad ones...so don't read everything and believe it.

Angie glad you made it safe and sound...I hope you really enjoy your vacation. Are you visiting family and friends? Tell them your banded family from NC says hello and to take care of you and the girls.

Pain for me today!!!! I took an Iron pill yesterday and I think it got stuck. I pbed lunch and dinner and then the cheese this morning..then I couldn't even drink...so it was hot tea and hot Soup for me today. Julie our nurse was great to me...hopefully tomorrow will be better if not the fill is coming out so that stupid pill will go down. UGH!!!!! Lesson learned this pill needs to be cut in 1/2...

Alright it's late for me and I still have some work to do...have a great night and I will chat later.

OK so I'm slow....

Karen my BIL swears by those shots. I'm actually thinking that if things dont'get better soon I may consider them. I am sick and tired of going to the chiropractor or the Dr for therapy. I'm tired of saying oh crap when I know I'm about to sneeze or cough. I want to give it more time though and more weight loss.

Speaking of weight loss....you guys know I have never put a total amount on a certain time frame for losing...well I hope I'm not setting myself up for failure, but I'd really like to lose 34 pounds by Sept 21. Do you think it's possible?

I've started walking along with my curves and crunches. I can't control the # but I can do more to help the # move.

Ok I'm off to get my Jello and hit the sack night night.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
