Hi all, how long will it be before I can carry my 40lb toddler after surgery? I want to hire a PT nanny for that period. TIA!

I would give it at least 6 weeks, but that is a personal opinion. Your best bet would be to check with your surgeon or nurse practioner.

Hi all' date=' how long will it be before I can carry my 40lb toddler after surgery? I want to hire a PT nanny for that period. TIA![/quote']

Well I was told it would be 6 weeks originally by my surgeon. I just went to my 4 week follow up appt and she said I have no more lifting restrictions. Everything went by faster then what they originally told me. I also had my gallbladder removed at the same time so I was surprised by that but very happy!

Glad you are better! Why did they remove your gallbladder too?!

My son was 2 when I got banded, and I picked him up (because sometimes you just have to) at 2 weeks post-op. The hubby stayed home for the first 3 days post-op, afterwards I looked after my son myself. I just sat down and put him on my lap if I needed to cuddle him. I would say that's not ideal but I managed fine.

By 4 weeks post-op though, I had him in a sling on my back and was taking walks around the neighbourhood, using him as weight to make the work-out harder. :)

Thank you! Well long story short after 2 yrs of severe nausea and diarrhea and not really any pain in my side that is typical of GB problems. I had every test imaginable done and everything was negative. I had a hida scan done and my GB was functioning at 80% which is considered normal range. However, the medicine they gave me for the test reproduced my symptoms. Right before being wheeled into the OR for LB my surgeon told me she was going to go ahead and take the GB out too since WLS often can lead to GB problems later. She said during the surgery my GB had been chronically inflamed and I had a lot of scar tissue around it which means it was definitely not working correctly. So, it was a great thing she took it out bc I was beginning to think I would never feel "good" again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
