Scaring after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm getting banded in July but my family and I are going on holidays in August, I'm wondering is it possible to go swimming in a pool and the beach about 2-3 after getting band. Will it affect the scars and cause infection?? Anyone have this issue??

2 or 3 weeks sounds way too soon! The sutures have to be healed completely, so talk to your doctor first. If you have glued sutures, you don't want to expose them to too much Water either, or they may fail. It took my sutures over a month to heal. The body apparently heals from the inside out. The larger sutures can take a bit of time.

Thanks for the advice. I will talk to my Doc about dates and maybe get an earlier date for surgery as I cannot change holidays! Really appreciate all the advice! Thanks so much

Excellent idea! Most doctors schedule a post operative visit about 3 or 4 weeks after surgery. Checking the incisions should be part of the follow up visit. Good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
