Restriction on one fill?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone here gets adequate restriction on one fill and if so, how much saline was instilled? :) From what I am reading here, it seems very few people achieve restriction with one or even two fills. Since I am getting my first fill on 5/25 (exactly 8 weeks post-op), I was wondering if people feel ANY difference at all with a first fill.

Also, what is the average "wait" time before you had a second fill? :help:

Thank You

You can certainly get restriction with your first fill. The amount really has no bearing. It's all about how YOUR band fits around YOUR anatomy. I would at least give it 2 weeks or more before I attempted another. In many cases, the fill doesn't really even 'kick in' until later down the road and you sure don't want to be over-filled right off the bat.

There are some docs out there who are more or less aggressive, but I think, generally, 1cc is what they use for the first fill, just to see how you respond. Good luck!!

I got my first fill on 4/27 and I really didn't feel much restriction. I had 1 cc put into my 4cc band, and he was going to put more in because I couldn't feel it. He opted against it, but I feel that I am able to eat too much. I do stop myself. I don't eat everything on my plate if I think it looks like too much. I try to stop when I am saticfied which is something for me since I am use to finishing everything on my plate. My doc told me that if in 2 weeks I am not feeling any restriction that I can call and get another fill.

Some doctors have you drink Water while they are filling and you have to tell them when you feel the Water move though the band. It's kind of hard to tell. Some doctors also do the fill under the floro. Both methods will get you a "custom" fill which will be exactly what your doctor thinks you need.

Other doctors use a standard fill schedule.

I had my first fill last Thursday. I was given 1.8 cc in a 4 cc band. I don't feel any difference. I still don't feel any restriction and I feel like I am still eating too much. I'm hoping to go back in a couple of weeks. I feel like I am just waiting to be able to really start losing. I have lost about 15 lbs. and haven't gained it back but I'm ready to really get started.

That waiting for the "sweet spot" on restriction is really hard. I empathize with you. It's just when you are waiting for the rest of your life to begin you want it to begin "NOW"... (I totally stole that line from a movie)

I tried so hard to think in terms of just being happy with knowing it was going to happen "SOON"

Also, I just keep thinking "At least I'm not gaining" since the previous months before surgery it was a struggle and hard diet just to maintian and not gain.

When I got my band I didn't get a fill until 7-8 months later, I had 2.2cc put in my 4cc band then, I had good restriction. I then got my second fill 15 months after that and he filled it back up to 2.2cc...a little had leaked out I guess and have had really good restriction since then.

I think it is possible indeed to get restricted in just one fill but as you might now by now from reading other threads in here, each one of us can react differently and «filling policy» can be quite different from one doctor to the other. Mine for instance, never fills more than 1cc and he keeps telling me that this is a very slow proccess and the slower you loose, the better results you get on your body... I know he's probably right, but even so I keep begging him to give more fills as I don't feel restricted at all (had 3 fills and I'm currently with 6cc on a 10cc band).

Also, allow a couple of weeks for the fill to kick in as you may not feel restricted right away.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
