So what can you typically eat when going to party or a BBQ? I am excited seeing my nutrionist Tuesday, to go over my horrible eating patterns.

I'm in the same dilemma, I am getting banded on Tuesday, and have a homecoming party to go to in July, and have no idea what to eat. I thought about bringing some stuff of my own, but I don't know if that would be appropriate. Hopefully we will get some answers. Good luck

~~~Stephanie
You can bring your own stuff, or I just look for high Protein foods, chicken, burgers , vegtables and I do allow myself a tsp of whatever I want, just so I don't sit and crave it. Just a taste, not a meal.lol
Its all about eating healthy portions and choices, not depriving ourselves.
Also this is a time to learn that gatherings with friends and family are about being with friends and family, not about food.
If it's soon after surgery look for soft foods or drink a Protein shake on the way and don't eat.
If you are far our and on reg food, you should be able to eat anything just in small amounts. Yesterday we have a bbq luncheon at work. I ate a spoon of BBQ, 1 small boiled potato, a small spoon of string Beans. Next weekend we are having a cookout at my house for my mom's b-day. I am fixing hamburgers and hotdogs. While I know bread of this type and me don't mix I will eat a buger cut up along with some pickle diped in ketchup. It will still be good and I won't have to worry about getting stuck.
Just remember the basics- SMALL bites, CHEW well, SMALL portions and you should be okay.
bring your own and just say your on a specal deit from your doctor you dont need to tell them it for weight loss. Doing what the person above me is a great plan I also in the beginning just call and say I am ill and will not be able to come this time. Remeber this is all about you, you come first so you need to do what ever it takes at this point..People understand illness but not weight loss isnt that a shame
sorry for the above post.. I bought a new laptop with windows 8 touch screen takes some getting used to..Anyway what I wanted to say is.. I have cooked birthday and other celebration dinners since being banded.. our family loves bbq.. I simply eat a small portion.. usually one small rib , a spoon of vegetables and I make sure we have salad and fruit on the menu... I cannot eat a lot of food anyway so it's hardly worth worrying about.. My family and friends don't pay any attention to me.. they love that I am still cooking for them.. lol
      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
