Once you have lost all your weight, I have heard the port stick out. Can the port be removed?

For the newer bandsters, does the "new technique" I keep hearing people talk about, make the port less visible?

You can have the entire thing removed, but I don't think you would want to. If I lose enough weight for my port to stick out I will be thrilled to have it stick out as a reminder of how far I've come.

I would think you would always need the port access to the band in case of some emergency. You never know when you may get a bug or having something happend to cause swelling or anything and Fluid would need to be removed for you safety. Access by port is far safer than emergency surgery to remove the entire band.

Why risk putting all the weight back on after losing it? Once the port is removed, the band will have no Fluid. And, you will be back on your own for controlling your diet.

You might consult with your surgeon if the port can be moved to a location where it is less conspicuous--if that ever even becomes an problem.

I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him next month. There are two types of ports; the original one, and a low profile one. I have the original, but I've heard that they can change to a low profile so it doesn't stick out (or, not as much). You might want to ask your doctor as well. There might be a solution, without removing it all together.....which I don't think is a good idea.

I'm thinking that the original poster wanted to know IF when they reach goal and the port protrudes can they MOVE IT? not remove it? YES, people do have their Ports Moved sometimes due to pain(inconvienent placement) and because it protrudes due to weight loss,

I have a low profile and it still looks looks like a 1/2 golf ball...can even see the tubing running under my skin a few inches long......can't imagine what the old standard one looked like....

Mine is like an alien sticking out of the side of my tummy. Sometimes it aches a little. The above poster was right tho - reminds me of how far I've come (cuz you could barely feel it when I weighed 100 lbs more!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
