So I had my first doctors appt towards getting my surgery, and one I got home I called my insurance based on that appt.I got to talk to someone one on one and was told I fully qualify for weight loss surgery and that they do fully cover it as well but I would have to go threw 6/mons of weight watchers. I am required to lose 10-13lbs each set of 12wks which is 20-26lbs once the 6months is up. The meetings are only once a week and last 30-45mins and I have to go to 10 out of 12. There is a local one in my town yay! Also can go Saturday which is perfect for me even better!

My BMI 44.2 I weight 265.6 :,( I'm 5'5" and I am 21yrs old.

Has anyone else been told to do the weight watchers before you can meet a surgeon or schedule a surgery date.

If you are going threw it now how are things going and if you're already done it it go by fast and did you learn anything that will help you once you get banded?

I didn't have to do weight watchers, but I did have to do a 6 month Dr supervised diet, where I had to meet with my Dr once a month and keep a food journal. The time honestly flew by and I am very happy that I had to do it. It gave me time to learn everything I could about the new lifestyle I would be taking on. I immersed myself in this site and learned the good, the bad, and the ugly. Good luck to you!

My insurance would not accept Weight Watchers, or any of the other dozens I've been part of...they required a Dr. supervised program, complete with progress notes, graphs, charts, etc....which we did submit, and inch thick!

And I was told it was not necessarily about loosing weight, although thats a good thing and I should do my best......I was told the insurance wanted it for the record, to prove I have attempted, and failed, at traditional weight loss programs...and a Dr. supervised one made it official....for the insurance record...

Needless to say, like every other diet I have ever been on, I did very well for the first 4 months, then began to gain it all back...no one seemed to care, my Surgeon even said all that did was reinforce my need for WLS....diets do not work for me....been there, done that, and failed...100 times.

I got pushed through almost immediately because I showed my insurance weight watchers records. It was like one day: here's our office... Your surgery is next week. LOL

They never asked persay. I just presented it and my 6 month diet phase was bypassed.

And did I learn anything from weight watchers? Not really... I've always known how to eat correctly.... Just never was able to retain weight loss.... I always lost doing program, though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
