Ive had my 1st fill. I'm a little over 2 weeks post op. I was told by the nurse that STRESS, TOM & other things can cause ur band to be tight. Since yesterday I've been OVERLY STRESSED & I don't feel restriction but my post site hurts. & everytime something stresses me it hurts more. I get sharp stabbing pains on my port side & non port side. I usually eat when I'm stressed but of course I can't do that. Any suggestions? I need help now .

Most surgeons won't do a fill until at least four weeks after surgery. This is to allow time for healing. Port pain after a fill doesn't seem to be reasonable. I'd call your surgeon's office for advice. Stress shouldn't cause pain, and having a fill shouldn't be "stressfull."

Thats what I said when I was told I'd get a fill a 2 weeks post op. But that's how my surgeon has been doing it for years. It maybe all in my mind. But if it continues i'll call. Right now I'm trying to get rid of the stress. I'll see how the day goes.

I get "port-pains" too. However, mine don't seem to be related to fills. I always get pains in my port when it is my TOM. I have read extensively on this, and what I experience appears to be normal. My port is very shallow and visible, it kinda sticks out. I always thought that its shallow placement had to do with its propensity for pain. For example, sometimes I get port-pains when I am sitting and slouching too much, so it reminds me to straighten up.

So when you do get a fill, is the actual process really painful? Or does the pain occur only after the fill? I have had three different nurses give me fills...and each experience was completely different. One nurse left me with a bruise over my port.

My best advice is to tell your doctor about your pain...and TRY not to worry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
