So why is it I Crave so bad?

Recommended Posts

Why is it I crave so so so bad something sweet right after I eat each meal? I don't eat something sweet because I can't or I'd throw up, I'm at my soft stop point, I hiccup and I know to stop eating but the craving is horrible and I just want to graze and it's there for at least a couple of hrs. To the point I wait a couple of hrs and give in and eat fresh fruit or a applesauce or immediately after eating I will put a piece of sf hard candy in my mouth. How do I overcome this?

Like you said, you can't or else you would throw up....same for me, (sort of) eventually you stop craving something you can never have....(the band prevents you from having)

It's harder in the beginning, until you get into that green zone....

I used to crave pizza, as an example....Pizza is now something on my "Do not eat list" entirely too much trouble and risk....so the cravings slowly went away...now I can look at pizza, and not even give it a second thought...

I've also stopped eating red meat...would LOVE a big juicy steak...but after getting stuck so many times, (and advice from my Dr.'s) I stopped Red meat altogether....been over 2 years...don't even think about it anymore....

Th band, slowly brings about behavior modification....contributing to that new permanent lifestyle....

fruit isn't so bad for you. Yes, you do need to be mindful of the sugar and calories, but the Fiber and Water is great.

Something else that helps if you are tempted to eat more after you know you are at your stopping point- brush your teeth or use a strong mouth wash- nothing taste good after that and will deter the desire. It actually works for me if I am really craving.

do you think you want something sweet because that is how people eat (deserts after dinner) or do you really want to eat something? if you are wanting to eat sweet, kime was right on saying fruit...its fresh and naturally sweet and good for you...best option.....

as i see it, the band wont stop (our minds) from thinking we want to eat this or that we just have to decide to make better food choices..you can eat what you want...the band says when to stop.....

It's like the popular saying around here "the band goes around your stomach, not your head". Unfortunately things like cravings don't just disappear because we're in the Green Zone.

But...you should be proud for recognizing your soft stop and not giving in!

I actually think the way you handle it is great. SF hard candies and fruit are healthy ways to combat sweets cravings.

I notice when I eat healthy that I start to crave things like sweets that I would normally never pay no mind. The more refined the carb the worse the craving is. My husband has a real bad sweet tooth, period, and the best way we found to tackle it was fruit it works really well for him. For me I have to stay away from most carbs. I go through withdrawls at first but then after I don't crave sweets anymore. Now head hunger seems to be a different thing. I chew sugar-free.gum or ments for that. Good luck.

My band is still loose enough that I can eat almost anything... for me, eating 90 grams of Protein a day seems to help control the calories--so far I am under 1000 calories and don't get too many urges to cheat. My NUT pushed eating protein first, and filling up on veggies and fruit afterwards. I don't have to watch portion sizes, but I do track everything that goes into my mouth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
