6 months out...and I'm still not getting enough fiber...so I take benefiber...chewable tablets. Seems to be helping. Colace is also something I took for awhile....it helped but I worry about being too dependent on something.

Benefibre is a natural source of fibre, or so I believe. So I wouldn't worry about becoming dependent on it, it's no worse than eating a high fibre Cereal. I was constipated for three days after my surgery on the fourth day I decide to drink some soya milk and it cleared everything out faster than I wanted it to. Now I know why my dog's breeder said never feed him soya.:omg:

The two big bisquits of the shredded wheat is still around . I get it every now and then, mostly because I used to eat it at my gramma's house and it's nostalgic, lol.

I also use benefiber when I am feeling a little 'stuck'. They have a powder one that you can just sprinkle in/on stuff. I've put it in crystal light and Soup and not tasted it at all.

I will say that I tried to start eating Fiber rich cereal every morning, and I think you need to build up fiber or something, because it caused me a lot of problems for a few days. I don't know if my body was saying that I have enough fiber, or close to it, or what. Just thought I would share that..

I am so glad you posted this. I haven't had one since the day before my surgery and am going to try some of these suggestions.

Are you sure you're constipated? Personally, I had nothing but liquid out for weeks, not exactly the runs, it was just what was going in for the most part. My doc said it's normal, and I didn't worry after that!!

Seriously, if you don't feel bloated and "yucky", it just may be the way your body is flushing your system...some foods used to make you "go" might actually cause you to bulk up too much too soon!!

Good luck, MelAnne, let us know "how it goes" for you !! hehehe

I FINNALLY had it happen!!

It took a day and a half, but at least things happened.

I watch Survivor, and just knew I was going to be like that guy that was taken outta the game !!!!! ROFLOL

It took with it, my pound weight gain!!!!! (ok, so I know it didn't - but the pound dissappeared and thats all that mattered!!!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
