Spread out meals

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm newly banded and I'm in the full liquids stage. I'm wondering if its ok to eat my meals over a long period of time. I still only eat my small portion but I find even a cup of Soup I need to spread it to about 2 or 4 sittings of small bites. I'm satisfied after a few bites and don't want to push it but then 30-60 min later I'm feeling hungry again. Is it ok to do this as long as I'm still only eating the same small portion? Thanks for any advice.

some how I missed during my pre op appt the fact when I was on liquids I was supposed to be eating about every 2 hours , so when I went in for my 2 wk check up i a... felt like comeplete s/**%^. bc i was eating virtually nothing and b.. after being asked and "you are eating every 2 hours right"... felt rather silly... somehow I had it in my head I was supposed to be eating 3 times a day... OMG 3 times a day does not work for me... I would say if you are TRUELY hungary not head hungar eat, what i do is a drink for about 30 -45 min to see if that satisfies me if not I am truely hungary.. right now I am averaging eating about every 3 hours ...3 "meals" a day but at the off times I am doing Snacks ( applesauce, cottage cheese, string cheese, small protien shake etc) hope that helps( make sure to account for everything (track )and stay with in your calories for the day of cource)...

I track everything and make sure my portions are right I just can't sit down and eat all at once. For lunch I had a cup of Tomato Soup and I ate about half then came back to it about an hour later and finished it. My calories right now are averaging around 350 a day. My dr didn't really set a calorie goal for me for the recovery diet.

I was instructed to only eat a 1/4 a cup of liquid at a time. I am still supposed to stick with 1/4 cup for mushies and no more than 1/2 cup per meal once I start solids.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
