Thoughts of fear - how did you talk yourself out of them?

I'm scared of telling people that I am considering having WLS. Especially my family. I guess I am ashamed that I have let my self get so big and don't want to admit that to my kids, as if they haven't noticed, DUH! If I don't mention the fact that I am fat then it can't be true right?!?! Then if I do have it will everyone be watching and waiting for me to fail at this too?

Most of my friends don't know I have the lapband. My close friends do but I too failed many diets, they didn't fail me. I'd lose weight and then gain it all back so the only person I have to answer to is myself.

So far, so good but you have to be honest with yourself and worry about you not what other people will think.

Good luck to you!

Many people have already said something similar... But... I as well was completely tired of my situation. Of being fat, of being sick. I felt as though it was my only alternative.... And although the unknown is terrifying, the thought of continuing my life how it was felt worse. That's how I became brave.

I didn't look for a ride-on shopping cart to shop with in Walmart today. I walked with a regular shopping cart. That's major for me!

That is awesome!!! Non-scale victories :]

Not people who love you. I don't care what people think, I haven't been able to keep it off on my own, I want quality of life, and this IS me getting HELP. And if for some reason the lap band did fail I would hope you'd be surrounded by people who encourage you to move on to the next thing that could help and support you into not giving up. <3

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
