Lap band unfill

Recommended Posts

I just had my lap band unfilled. The Dr. said I should wait 24 hours before eating. Does this sound correct?

If that is what he says, I'd follow his guidelines, but in allot of cases it's usually suggested to go on Liquids...due to inflammation.. Can I ask WHY? he did an un fill? was it a total or partial un fill...

Yes, what Jackie said. Any time I've had to do an unfill they tell me to do liquids for at least a day until the swelling goes down. Depending on how bad it was, you may want to do mushies for a day or so after that. Hope you feel better soon, I've been there!

I had 6.5 cc. He took out 6cc and put back in 2cc. The band has never worked for me. I have always felt hungry and would choke on food all the time. He then informs me that the band only works on about 6 out of 10 people. I never heard of this before. I must be one of the 4.

Sorry to hear....6 out of 10, I have heard it would be 6 out of 10 will NOT be successful...that includes those who have lost weight and gain it back (fall off the diet wagon)....not everyone can tolerate the band...someone asked me info about the band the other day...she is very obese and considering WLS...knowing her as well as I do, I found myself telling her that this surgery is NOT for everybody, and that there is a high failure rate for all sort of reasons....

Have you considered what you are going to do next???

Well I don't know about the % of people that it doesn't work for but that IS one of the Complications that they list for the Band. And If your thinking about getting it out be sure that you and the doctor have Documented the problems you have experienced especially If you've had vomiting/reflux ANYTHING ... because sometimes the insurance will just look at this as Non-compliance, not band failure and possibly not see the need for removal.

HOW long have you had your band?

Good Luck ~

I have had the band since Sept 2010. The doctor also said that lap band installs are way down.
