It's becoming so hard to have a Protein Shake while everyone around me is having a full course meal. I keep picking at things that I can't have. I just wanna cry all day and nobody understands how hard it is. It's so much easier said than done :(

It does suck! Trust me I understand!! One thing that I did was excuse myself for a few and just leave the room (sometimes not coming back until everyone was done! Lol). When we went to my sons family gathering at his school (day 3 pre-op diet), I looked at the silent auctions while they enjoyed a 3 course meal. Sure it might have looked funny, but I couldn't handle the torture of drinking Water while everyone enjoyed their delicious meal. It's hard but you can do it!! Eventually you will be enjoying good foods too! Just in much smaller portions!!

Above posters gave you great advice. Do something while they eat.

Chew gum while preparing meals, keeps you from tasting. While they eat, enjoy the outside, go for a walk and meditate hiw good you're going to feel being thinner.

We've all been there and done that, you can do it too.

My family eats what I can eat just more if they want junk they go out to eat and no doggie bags. Family outs in the beginning I didn't go but explained and asked for their support. As time went on I learned to not breath with my nose around food I love like the bakery. My daughter did all the food shopping for the first 3 mos ...Its hard to learn to put yourself first but once you get the hang of it people understand and help out so stay strong you are worth it.

This is a very, very hard time. I completely agree. The only way out is through it. I just told myself that THIS is temporary. A small, small part of the journey. I only took it one day at a time.....and soon....I was over it and banded. Good luck!

Nobody said it would be easy!

Remember, you haven't had a full yet though, so you still have some time to get to your green zone.

Do hang in there!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
