So I was banded June 2009, almost 4 years ago. I lost 103lbs and then in December of 2012 had 1cc taken out of my band due to being too tight. I decided that I was going to try and do it on my own for a while and I failed! I weighed in and saw I gained 19lbs! What! Yup, 19lbs I said.

I knew I gained but didn’t think it was that much, I was horrified so I went in for a fill the other day to get back on the band wagon. I can’t believe it still! Just when you think you can do it all on your own and you get so use to the band that you think it’s all you, it’s not!

Just wanted to send put this post out there so those who’ve gained a little weight back don’t feel so alone! I know you’re out there and we are in this together!! =)

if it helps at all, I'm sure it's mostly Fluid. Go back to a liquid diet for a few weeks and try to get jumpstarted again.

Thank you for pointing that out it actually did make me feel better! I did miss having that drive and motivation to loose weight and not it's back so that is a good thing at least!!

YES - you can reel this in quickly, before 19 pounds turns into 90 pounds :o

Before my surgery, I told my doctor that maybe I'd have the band removed. once I'd lost all my weight. He told me that most start to gain under those circumstances. JUST like you said, we get used to banded life, and don't really realize how much a part of us it becomes. Out comes the band, and out comes the food beast within - AACK!!!

All I can say is, catch this while you can. We all know how quickly we can gain all of our weight back, once we let go of the reins

I hear ya! I really forgot the band was helping me so much so I thought "i wont go back for another fill, I will try this on my own" and well you can see how that turned out haha

I made a promise to myself that gaining about 20lbs back was as far as I was going backwards...............ahhhhhh here we go!

I know exactly where you're coming from. I was banded in Oct 2009 and originally lost 104 lbs (9 lbs from goal of 135) last year. Then my band had a minor slip and they took some fill out. I gained 18 lbs. Then, 2 months ago, I had a major slip and they took out ALL of my fill (awaiting revision to sleeve in late June) and I gained another 12 (8 of them on my 7 day Alaskan cruise last week). So I've gained a total of 30 lbs in about 18 mths. Wow. I also thought once I lost it, it would be easy to keep it off.

I don't fit into many of my clothes anymore. I'm not trying to lose weight but I'm also trying not to gain weight before my revision surgery. I know that I'll lose what I have left after that.

Good luck taking it off. It sucks to think you're a failure (you're not, btw)

I had an experience where I didn't gain or lose for two months felt ashamed. I got back on track and lost 4 pounds in the last week. And a half. If we could do it on our own we wouldn't have gotten the band.....lol

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
