Lost the first week, now 6 weeks later just maintaining...normal?

Recommended Posts

I'm about 6 weeks post op and haven't had a fill yet. I lost about 12 pounds the first week and now have lost nothing but

am maintaining. Trying to stay positive but having that self doubt about this all working for me.

For the most part I feel no restriction (but then I've not had a fill yet either.) I'm tracking on My fitness pal and am staying basically at 1000 to 1200 calories a day.

I've seen the dietician, once pre op in the approval stage and then at 2 weeks. I go the end of May for my first fill.

Will things turn around or am I doing something wrong?

The one thing I know I could improve is exercise. I'm not getting in much exercise and walking is my choice but other than that, I would say I am really choosing carefully, have cut out breads and pasta....try to have my carbs be fruits...

I need encouragement and hope!

I was banded a little over a year ago(11/28/11). I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. Then I got my 3rd fill and met with my nutritionist. I changed some of my eating habits and started tracking my calories closer. The weight began to fall off after that. Relax, what you are experiencing is very normal and has happened to many of us. Seems like I was hungrier after the surgery than ever before. But, I was a good boy and ate healthy foods, but maybe not the 1/2 cup I was told to eat.

OK, thank you. That helps to hear. Mostly I hear of how much many have lost and felt alone where my progress was.

It really bites to go 4 months(in my case) and watch so many other dropping 40-50 lbs(and still complain). LOL

You haven't filled out your profile so I don't know your situation? But mine was I was a low BMI patient. So I only had about 12 lbs of excess Fluid to lose. Many folks who are 200 lbs obese, can drop 50 lbs of excess Water their fat has stored. This kind of weight falls off first and may give someone the illusion they'll continue to lose 5-10 lbs every week. Not going to happen.

Once you drop the excess fluids you start working on the stored fat. Exercising is very very important if you want to be successful. Walking is good but biking, hiking, tennis, aerobic activities work best.

I was banded 3/25/13 and have only lost 16lbs, so I know what you are feeling. I see the results that other people have had and are having and I wonder what I am doing wrong. I am watching what I eat and when I eat, and try to get some excercise in, but know I could be better with that. Just went in today and got a fill, so now I am at a little over 3 cc. Hopefully, that will help. Good luck.

I was banded 4/25 and have hit a plateau. I have lost 26 lbs since starting my pre-op diet 4/11. The last two weeks I have not lost any weight. I go for my first adjustment this week (5/23) and am hoping I will receive my first fill and start losing again. I as actually relieved to read this post to know I am not alone. It is hard to stay positive though when you stop seeing the scale go down!

Even fruit can slow weight loss. Try a week with 100g of Protein and no more than 50 g carbs

1-4 week plateaus are very common especially if you are exercising. Exercising builds muscle tissue which offsets the fat you are losing so don't get discouraged. You should feel it in your clothes fitting looser.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
