leg pain?

Recommended Posts

I have been walking 6 days a week, Monday will be two weeks. I had planed on adding another block ( I walk one block now) after two weeks. My husband walks with me and thought that was a pretty good time frame, but when I'm walking about half way through my legs, the front of my chins(sp?) and around my ankles just start hurting, and was worse today. It is a burning feeling I think it is muscular. Is it the weight? Should I just push through it or should I wait to add the other block when it quits hurting? I weigh 273 and 5'3 I am not losing yet I have not been banded (May 28th) is the weight to much on my ankles for what I'm doing? I could do more otherwise. Thank you for any input.

---Stephanie

I had similar pain when I first started walking. I bought new walking shoes and the pain went away.

I went to a local running store and had the gentleman there fit the proper shoes for my waling style, weight, etc. Now it feels like I am walking on air.

It's pretty common, I had it at first when I started walking...it's caused by the foot hitting the hard surface while walking and even though you aren't running, it sounds like shin splints....stretching before hand and good fitting shoes with the correct arch support can help...Best Wishes Stephanie :)

I agree with making sure you have on some good walking shoes. I used to get shin splints in my volleyball days and they are painful, I believe they make compression socks for athletes now to help with that problem. Do you strech before and after even if its a short walk?? Soaking in a warm bath helps me with soreness also... Good luck with your upcoming band surgery!

Shin splints. I was in the same boot back in 2003, when I first decided to start walking. I began by walking a few hundred feet, but within six months I was walking for two or three hours a day through the farm fields and trails in the nearby woods. I never thought I could do it when I started... and I remember the sore shins! That will clear up with time, and you will find your stamina will increase with each passing day. It is good to have a walking partner. My last lab loved to walk, and she would throw a fit until I got her leash for her daily jaunt.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
