Drinking thru/down my meals

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was banded 8-2011. I lost 50 lbs really fast, then life got in the way and I stopped exercising. Recently I have had another problem. I find myself drinking down my food so I can eat more. I hate that full feeling. It is uncomfortable, even when I eat very little. So I want to get rid of that feeling, so I drink after I eat too. Anyone else???? How did you fix it???

You fix that by stop eating around the band- which is exactly what you're doing. You get your "stop" or "full" signal after little food so you try to wash it down so you can eat more. You're totally defeating the purpose of your band, which is to leave you feeling satisfied after little food.

I would very strongly suggest you talk to your doctor, tell him what you're doing, and see what his suggestion is. If you continue to eat around your band like this you're risking stretching your pouch and even possibly a slip.

Best wishes.

Its obvious that your head is not into this, so like the others said "talk to Dr, Nut" maybe they can suggest a therapist to help with the head game.

You can start over.

Good luck to you!

you can start fixing it when you start fixing yourself (mentally) we were told not to drink while eating for a reason (as you explained) and as mis and tmf and dawg said, defeats the purpose of WLS banding.

so if you want to lose weight, really want too..

then you will do what you are suppose too and fix it.

eating more calories than you burn off will make you gain weight. band or no band......

A satiated feeling shouldn't be uncomfortable, unless the band is too tight, or if you are over eating beyond where you should stop. Another question that arises is if you are getting enough Protein intake? Too many carbs will only make you hungry for more. I go along with visiting your doctor and the nutritionist.

You've gotta want it enough to stop. There's no other answer or solution. Think of it as a plateau you've hit. Now you've identified the problem, and it's time to fix it. Think of how great you'll feel once you've pushed through this and go on to losing more and feeling healthier again. I know it's hard, but it really is worth it. Be accountable and get someone to help you stay accountable if that's what it takes. Good luck !!

I always used to try and figure out how to outsmart diets then I realized 2 things

1) I was only winning against myself

2) I needed to keep my brain challenged so that "my diet" wasn't the most compelling brain puzzle to draw my subconscious.

Seeing a counselor or therapist could definitely help with the behavior you're describing but if you want to try and be more proactive; rather than figuring out how to eat more, make your challenge figuring out how to eat slower and/or healthier.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
