Anyone have Hepatic Lobe Lesions before surgery?

Recommended Posts

I went for my heart and gallbladder ultrasounds yesterday, and the Dr's office called and said the radiologist had seen a "hepatic lobe lesion" (which is something on/in the liver) - that he wasn't concerned, didn't think it would be an issue....BUT....they want to send me for an MRI. Not only will this delay my surgery (which hadn't been scheduled but I was hoping for a June date), but it's very expensive! Just wondered if anyone else had gotten these results from a gallbladder ultrasound, and if so, what was discovered. I'm not terribly worried since my bariatric Dr. didn't seem to be but........

Any stories would be helpful! Thanks!

A low attenuation lesion on a certain area of your liver just basically means there is something there it could be a scar or shadow. The low attenuation is a measurement. How strong it is. Low attenuation is good and usually not a concern. If it showed high than it is cause for concern.

The mass can be a tumor (benign or malignant) or more likely a cyst. Cysts form and rupture on their own with their contents resorbed by the body on a regular basis. Unless you have risk factors (cirrhosis, one of the hepatitides=Inflammation of the liver, caused by infectious or toxic agents and characterized by jaundice, fever, liver enlargement, and abdominal pain.), most liver tumors are benign, quite common, and usually found incidentally in a scan looking for something else.

It 's a good thing that they are doing more tests, better to find our Before banding than after. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted on your Journey

A few years back I went for an abdominal ultrasound, and (though they weren't looking for this) they found numerous cysts in my liver and kidneys; TONS for them. There is one particular one on my liver that is the size of a small cantaloupe. I had it drained once (something like a liter of Fluid came out), but it filled back up again within six months. It's been there for years, along with ALL the rest, and I just leave it alone; doesn't bother me.

At the time when all of this was (accidentally) discovered, I went through a ton of tests to find out if I had Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). One nephrologist saddled me with that diagnosis, which I carried for a few years. That is NOT a good thing, because insurance companies run the other way when you have that condition. THEN, I got another MRI on my spine (unrelated), and the radiologist clearly said that all the cysts were "simple" cysts, and not PKD. Which makes perfect sense, because these things have been there since at least 1984. If it were PKD, I would be symptomatic; my kidneys would be enlarged, and I'd be headed for dialysis.

SO - long winded answer.....sorry  Do you have insurance? If so, it should cover further diagnostics to rule out anything serious. People live with all sorts of lesions, cysts & other internal barnacles; none of it an issue. But you have to take the next steps to make sure that it IS nothing to worry about.

Good luck......

Thanks for the info and personal insights, guys! I am trying not to be worried about it, because everything I've read says it's probably nothing but what y'all mentioned. I definitely am glad to get any possibile issues dealt with before lap band - I just (selfishly) don't want to delay my surgery, because I'm trying to get it done in early June so I can recuperate before going back to work in August (I'm a teacher). Of course I know my overall health comes first, and I will update with results. Thanks again for the feedback!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
