Banding and bummed!

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for banding on May 9. On April 23 ( over a week ago) DH hurt his back. He has been to Dr. and PT. He can barely walk so he needs a lot of my care. Now, I don't mind that. BUT, he is supposed to take care of ME when I get my band next week. He really is only slightly better than when he got hurt. I might have to reschedule. I'm starting to think about being bummed!:cry

I'm sorry that you may have to reschedule! I know delays can be tough (my surgery was delayed for over 3 months - long story) but it will be worth the wait! I hope DH feels better soon! :eekB:

Well, DH is not ALL better, but he has improved a lot. He still has not gone to work, but is able to work from home. He just needs to rest frequently, and not sit too long. We are sure that he will be able to take me for banding next Tuesday, even if he has to have a lie-down in the back of the van.

awe Kate, its gonna be ok!

I dont think you'll need special care, just a little help here and there. Many bandsters go home to an empty environment, left to tend to themselves. I think you'll be fine. Maybe check into someone doing light housecleaning (laundry) till you are able (for a week?). And remember to stock the cupboards REALLY well before heading to the hospital. Everything's gonna work out!

This will be a great opportunity for you and your husband to have some quality time. You'll see.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
