HOLLY80 14 Posted May 15, 2013 Ok so had my surgery 4 /19 /13. I have no guide lines as to how much food per meal i should be eating.( not sure about what portion size or of calories) ex Breakfast i had a Protein Shake, for lunch i had small salad and a grilled chicken breast, for dinner i had 3 pieces of fish. is this to much? my weight loss has come to a dead stop. how many calories should i have a day. I know i should try to get 65-70 gm of Protein a day but that's really the only guide lines besides no bread, cakes Cookies and on. I really want to make sure i am doing this right. I hope someone has some good advice.
JACKIEO85 308 Posted May 15, 2013 Fluid: • Adequate Fluid intake is crucial to prevent dehydration. • Drink at least 64 ounces (8 cups) of sugar-free, non-carbonated fluid daily. • Absolutely no carbonated beverages. • Do not use a straw when drinking your fluids. General Guidelines The first band adjustment usually occurs approximately 6 weeks after your surgery. Follow the guidelines below for best results. 1. DO NOT EAT AND DRINK AT THE SAME TIME ! ! Wait 30 minutes after meals to begin drinking fluids. Stop drinking 30 minutes before your planned meal. 2. For the first six weeks, use a Protein supplement (shakes, drinks, etc.) along with your diet. 3. Eat only three meals daily once solids have been added to your diet. 4. Avoid foods that are difficult to digest: nuts, tough meat, celery, etc. 5. Avoid doughy or sticky foods: soft white bread, Peanut Butter, dried fruits. 6. Chew all food to a pureed texture. 7. Eat slowly taking 20 to 30 minutes to eat your meal. 8. Sip only low calorie beverage between meals. 9. Take your Multivitamin every day. 10.Do not snack! Weeks 1 – 2: Full liquids • Consume liquids that are thin enough to drink through a straw, but don’t use a straw! Drink the liquids in small sips. • Include protein supplements (shakes, drinks, etc.) daily to make sure you meet your protein requirements. • Look for sugar-free alternatives to liquids since it is easy to consume too many calories through liquids alone. • Full liquids keep your stomach from working too hard by decreasing pressure on the band. This will prevent any vomiting in the immediate post-surgical period. http://www.siumed.ed...apband_diet.pdf Allot of people are also very HUNGRY just prior to getting their first fill, it's something to remember as your post op weeks progress. Because in MOST cases your still healing and Band restriction doesn't start for most until AFTER FILLS 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
Tomander 614 Posted May 15, 2013 Holly did your doctor/Clinic not give you a binder or "package" with information with sample menus to follow and guidelines? Each doctor is different but most doctors have people do Post-op in various stages. Keep a food journal and if you have access to a nutritionist maybe book an appointment with them to review your journal with them... if you don't have access to one another great option is joining a support group. I host 3 monthly coffee groups for people that are banded and we get people out at all stages... it's a great way to learn information. For me support from other "bandsters" play a big key to helping me lose my weight and also in maintaining my weight. Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. ☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted May 15, 2013 if your doctor did not give you a post op (diet) to follow, you need to call them and see about getting one...i am with tom, hard to believe any dr would just leave you out there hanging.....also, a big help would be to call a nutritionist to speak to to (refresh) you on what to eat and how much.....jackie and tom made some excellent points....just remember if you eat more calories than you burn off, you will not lose and quite possibly gain......WLS or not...... best of luck to you. Banderina 69 Posted May 15, 2013 I find this hard to believe too. There no way I was eating those foods just weeks after surgery either. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

JACKIEO85 308 Posted May 15, 2013 Unfortunately, it HAPPENS ALLOT, Dr's don't give Patient's the information necessary, they think if they give you a pamphlet on "The Band" their job is done (been there done that) All I can say is Thank-goodness for the internet
jenn0528 40 Posted May 15, 2013 I have a packet, but Nut explained "protein first then what good foods will fill up your golf ball". My pouch will be about the size of a golf ball! It was a good analogy to help picture how much food to have.
GinaT228 9 Posted May 19, 2013 I was banded this past Monday the 13th. While I was given a booklet that told me WHAT to eat. It didn't tell me HOW MUCH to eat. I just don't know how much I should be eating. I had a bowl of blended hot and sour Soup tonight. In the plastic bowl that it comes in. I ate slowly but was able to eat the entire bowl. Any recommendations out there?

Good food I mean, because you can get really high-calorie foods with no nutritious value in 3 cups if food 1 GinaT228 reacted to this

Take it easy, only Soups, shakes and the mushy for a couple of weeks, you have to heal before worry. After that 3 cups of food per day, no Snacks, just that. brad95 2 Posted May 21, 2013 I was wondering the same thing myself. I was banded on Friday. My clear liquid weekend was relatively simple, but I am starting to get an appetite back, now that I have gone one day being able to have Protein Shakes, cream of wheat, etc. I'm going to call my nurse tomorrow, but I just went every other hour alternating between a "pure" liquid and a "clear" liquid.
