blondechcky 57 Posted May 14, 2013 So I was banded yesterday 5/13. I keep feeling like I have stuff in my lungs but it hurts too bad to cough to get it cleared up. Does anyone have any tips in how to do this without feeling like I'm being stabbed?
sp70 193 Posted May 14, 2013 Hold a pillow across your belly to help support it when you cough. Don't suppress the cough especially if you feel there are secretions you don't want it to turn into pneumonia. Walk, take some deep breaths, drink plenty of Water, take pain meds as needed and support your belly as you cough. (that's the nurse in me coming out! ) 5 Creekwood, DMJ 0340, ItsANewDay and 2 others reacted to this
blondechcky 57 Posted May 14, 2013 Yea I tried the pillow and I've been doing all the other stuff too. Every time I barely cough I feel like my incisions are gonna bust open.
drehn88 251 Posted May 14, 2013 I had to cough too and I knew how important it was. I'm a week past surgery and I didn't bust any stitches. Just hold it tight and cough!
JennaSoto 85 Posted May 15, 2013 I had some coughing too- didn't break anything- it hurts for the first 3-4 days, but gets better after that.
Creekwood 702 Posted May 15, 2013 So I was banded yesterday 5/13. I keep feeling like I have stuff in my lungs but it hurts too bad to cough to get it cleared up. Does anyone have any tips in how to do this without feeling like I'm being stabbed? The suggestions here are good. As soon as they pulled the oxygen mask off of me when I was in post-op recovery room I had a couple deep coughs. It hurt like hell but cleared me out very well and I could breathe much better! Good luck!! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted May 15, 2013 did they give you the little breathing machine? if so, use it...you want to keep your lungs clear..so cough even if it hurts and yes, it will stop ....congrats on your surgery 1 Creekwood reacted to this
blondechcky 57 Posted May 15, 2013 Yea I have the breathing thing and I've been using it. It was getting to the point where I couldn't breathe unless I coughed and got it up. It was extremely painful but I feel better now. No more wheezing. 2 Creekwood and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
indenial 12 Posted May 15, 2013 Coughing and sneezing are the worst. A pillow helps. I sneezed last night and broke out inot a cold sweat it hurt so much. It does go away. Congrats on your surgery. Now the fun begins! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
blondechcky 57 Posted May 15, 2013 Thank you! I'm so excited for this journey. I refuse for this to fail like all the other diets. If I'm going through all this pain it will all be worth it! 1 jbandster reacted to this
