My doc didn't prescribe any laxatives, (I'm 13 days post opp) but I've read a lot of people are using it with lap band. I picked some up at the drug store because I have been straining/struggling when trying to make a BM.

Any tips on taking the Miralax? Is it gross? I'm hoping for stool softening, not flood gates of poop.

MiraLax is awesome. Take a whole capful for now (you can even up it to two doses 12 hours apart). Dissolve it completely in any liquid and drink it right away. Maybe chase it with hot coffee or tea to make sure it all goes down. It is a softener and mild laxative with little to no side effects. Even now, I take about a 1/4 cap every morning before my coffee, because I don't eat enough to be as regular as I'd like.

I just put it in Water at the end of the day and drink it. You can't even taste it. It's amazing stuff. I take it every Sunday and Wednesday nights to counter all the Protein congestion that I get. Good luck!

Just in case the Miralax doesn't work a back up could be magnesium citrate (sp?)It's a liquid you can get it flavored or unflavored and mix it. You can also take different amounts depending on your needs. I'd use the Miralax first, but if all else fails the magnesium citrate will do the job.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't try it last night. I actually went to bed at like 6PM and slept nearly 12 hours. I guess my body needed it because I was exhausted by 10:30AM yesterday. Anyway, I am drinking my AM coffee right now, so maybe I'll dissolve it in Water sometime between Breakfast and lunch.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
