Weigh in before surgery

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is May 21st, I had my last weigh in May 6th and no longer need weigh ins. I was wondering if you get weighed one last time before surgery? I'm concerned about being disciplined from now until then, I need that accountability. My surgeon told me it's not necessary to see me again until surgery day.

  • I was weighed at the hospital morning of surgery. I figured it was a way to see if I really followed the preop liquid diet! I was never weighed before any of my previous surgeries. Not sure of how many places do, but I would expect it, especially if it will help you stay accountable! Can't hurt! good luck.

Pre-op appt at hospital weighed me. That was 5 days before surgery.

I guess it depends where you're having surgery.

Try to stay as discipled as possible. I truly believe I had an easier time post op b/c of not introducing sugar and bad carbs into my diet. Others were crying how hungry they were and I thought it was nothing I couldn't handle.

Good Luck!

Yes, your last weight in should be right before the surgery. My surgery was on Friday and I have lost 9 pounds in 3 days, that's crazy.

You will be weighed the day you have surgery at the hospital...If it was me, I would take the next 2 weeks to eat healthy.....find out what healthy, low fat, Protein rich foods you like so it will be an easier transition for your after banding. Best Wishes :)

I was weighed immediately before I changed into a hospital gown. Good luck!! Make good food choices!!!

My last weigh in was a Friday at the surgeons office...surgery was early Monday morning....

Saturday I went out for my "Last Meal", a place I knew I would never visit ever again...a Chinese All You can eat Buffet.....

Sunday, I fasted all day with only Water, and went to the gym for a long hard workout.....

Monday morning my weight was less than it was Friday.....go figure.

That was over 2 years ago....I have since completed this weight loss journey, so a short time ago I confessed this to my surgeon....first he called me a few choice names, then laughed and shook his head....

But, if you do not loose the required weight as some Dr,'s demand, you can jeopardize your surgery date....I've heard stories from people getting postponed a few weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
