Do I Need Another Fill?

Recommended Posts

I have an appointment with the nurse at my doctor's office this morning. I'm not sure if I should have her do a small fill, as I'm not clear about the "green zone", and what it's supposed to feel like.

Right now, I'm able to take pretty normal size bites. Not snarfing size bites, but.....regular. I chew pretty well, and haven't had any problems. I may have had a tiny stuck sensation, but I'm not sure what that feels like, either. What I think MAY have been a little stuck, lasts for only a few seconds. I'll feel a little jab in my sternum, right above where the band is. Most of the time, I'm clear when it's time to stop eating, but sometimes I push it a bit. I don't get hungry for about 3-4 hours, which seems okay.

Right now, I have 6.4 cc's in a 10cc band. I was thinking that I might ask her to bring it up to a full 7cc's and see how that goes. I'm just not sure about the all elusive "green zone", and if I may already be there?

I can only speak for me. I look for satiety signals and try to stop when I sense one. You will have to get in touch with your band and analyze your own hunger vs. cravings to determine if you are hungry or just want to eat too much? It's going to be different for everyone.

I've read here where some say they cannot physically eat beyond a cup of food. I've read others who state they're hunger goes away completely after 1/2-1 cup of food? Good luck!

Thanks tmf. I don't know what happened today, but my notifications weren't sent to my email, and haven't been appearing in the notification box. Odd.... I think I fixed it, but it was very quiet today from LBT :-)

The nurse didn't think that I needed a fill today. It sounded to her like I'm doing well without it; satisfied after half to one cup of food, and satiated for a good 3-4 hours. I guess I question it because I'm able to take normal bites, don't get stuck, etc. She said that's a good thing! I'm consistently losing weight, and have no negative issues with the band. What she DOES think, is some of my issues are behavioral, which the band cannot fix. I like to eat something after dinner, whether I have stomach hunger or not. That's been my biggest hurdle. So she gave me the lecture on behavior modification, but told me that I'm doing well. So - off I went; no fill today :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
