Need a fill refresher/re-education - just can't remember

Recommended Posts

How quickly I forgot. It's been years since I've dealt with fills. I recently had surgery and had to get a complete band deflate. 1 month after surgery I went in to get my fill back, which, was the same amount in cc's before I had the surgery. I did the 1 day clear liquid, 1 day shakes, 1 day mushies then full meal as I've done in the past for every fill. One week later and I feel very little to no restriction since the fill. Yesterday, I tested the fill. I had a hotdog with bun and had no problem eating the whole thing. Should I be concerned or am I being inpatient? I will place a call with my doc today, but, until then any feedback would be appreciated. Jake

Just keep getting fills till you start to feel a little restriction or feeling satisfied with less food. It could take several fills to get back to the green zone.

Well, I had my fill under floro. I had 2.4 cc's in the band before my surgery and I asked the doc if we could go up to 2.5. Doc tried it and said that 2.5 was too much and I was way too tight. I'm a bandster that requires very little cc's to get to my sweet spot. I'm wondering if I need to wait and be patient. This morning I had 1 scrambled egg and feel satisfied, but then, it's early in the morning when the band is tightest. I'm sooooo confused!!!!

Yes, just like many, my band is tighter some days, and an open portal the next. I have also heard that the cc numbers really are different for each person and also that just because your cc number worked before your surgery, it might have changed now to a different requirement. Work with your surgeon and I'm sure you will get it all worked out. Good Luck =)

Many would be very happy to have your dilemma. Being satisfied for 3 hours is very good. Give it a week or two and if you feel like you need more, go back and ask for a small adjustment.

My MD says to could take 2 weeks to feel a fill

I made this particularly question to my surgeon yesterday (as someone else also told me this), and he said that either the fill works immediately or not. He even said: is like a light switch, either is on if u put it on, or off..

He told me to be back if i still dont feel restriction in about 2days after i start solid food again.

Derb... sorry to tell you, but your doctor is wrong.... Braz is right. you either fill it or you don't... there is no two week delay. Now with that said, some day are tighter than others... for me the cold weather makes mine tighter...

Jake.... my restriction has never been the same since my TT. I had it a year ago this past feb and have the exact amount i had in before the surgery and i get a full feeling, but it doesn't last as long as it use too. I had 10.5 before and have 10.5 now in my 14cc band. I'm Thinking about going another fill soon.

Thank you all for the responses. I ended up feeling more restriction today, thank God! I just don't understand this fickle band sometimes. I will share that there is a little bit more to my issue. I got my call back from my doctor this morning and she tells me that my pouch is bigger that it should be. I seriously stretched my pouch once already and had to be on liquids for 6 weeks - man it was awful, but was effective!!!!! This time my doc tells me that the pouch is not as stretched as last time and to correct it she told me to measure my meals (1 cup and preferably less) and I should be good in 4-5 weeks. She mentioned it at the fill, but, didn't seem to be as concerned.

If I can be of any help to anyone, I know how I stretched my pouch. I know I've posted this many times, but, just one more time if it will help even one person. I keep a loose band because of my severe seasonal allergies. Because of the loose band, I rarely have stuck episodes, which is nice, but, I can also get away with eating bigger bites and not chewing my food well. Chewing your food is one of the critical golden rules for bandsters that can get you in trouble if not compliant. My meal volumes were never larger than a cup, but, my bites were rarely small and I did not chew well enough. Small bites and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW!!! A stretched pouch can be corrected if caught in time, but, trust me it is harder than the 2 week pre-surgery Protein diet. Be careful. Jake

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
