Been banded for 5 days now and I am experiencing pain in the back rib area on the left side. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if it is just from the gas.

It sounds like gas to me, but you can always call your doctor and confirm. Hope you feel better!

I was banded 4 days ago, and I have the same kind if pain. I was reading and the port is on that side and it can cause a little discomfort. I try not to move to that side when I sleep. Hope you feel better!

yes I had that also (and with a hernia repair too) it hurt to take a deep breath....keep moving, and if you do get overly concerned, as the other poster said, just call the dr and let them know ......congrats on your recent surgery....in 6 months, you will be on here telling people the same thing, that it does get better :)

I'm 13 days post opp. I think I've gotten rid of most of the gas, but my back has been hurting pretty bad for the past could of days. I was experiencing gas on the same sholder, but the front. I also noticed I've been tensing up around my shoulders. I think instead of putting pressure on my core, I've started to put pressure on my shoulders.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
