mamasass 16 Posted May 13, 2013 My insurance (Health Assurance) requires six months with the nutritionist, cardiac clearance, pulmonary clearance, psych clearance, letter from pcp, EGD, current TSH within normal limits, and you can't gain more than give lbs from initial visit with surgeon. I have fulfilled all of these requirements. My BMI is 37 with 3 comorbidities. I started this journey the beginning of December. My last nut appointment is June 3. Then they send it to insurance for approval. Then after it is approved they call me back in for pre op appointment and to schedule. My new insurance year starts Aug. 1. I have already met my deductible. I need to get this done before the end of July! I know I am not the only one to experience this anxiety and wait, but ugh....it has me so crazy not knowing....And what if they don't approve me?
ChicagoRose 650 Posted May 13, 2013 Take a deep breath! I too had to go through all those hoops and for me it was 10 months and 3 weeks from beggining to end of the pre-qual. Hopefully yours will go much quicker but the hard part is just getting all those appointments in a timely manner!
mamasass 16 Posted May 13, 2013 I feel whiny. I just hate the uncertainty of it all. I read these posts and I have hope.....I now have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I am so looking forward to being and feeling healthier.
jsws91 153 Posted May 13, 2013 you are not alone.. I was the same way. wait until they send it in for approval. that week or two will seem like an eternity.. I got approved last week and then started preop diet on Wed. my surgery is on the 30th. now it seems like things are going quickly. not much longer for you now!! if your last appt is June 3 rd.. you could be having surgery in June! It'sTime 82 Posted May 13, 2013 Always remember . . . It's a marathon and not a sprint. Very good things come to those who wait. I just had my surgery today and my LapBand journey started nearly three years ago. Hang in there, do be patient, and do everything they ask and require of you. The rest will fall into place. patsy1947 42 Posted May 16, 2013 cant believe how long some of you had to wait before surgery.. and insurance co. ask for so much, I have caremore and i am hoping it doesn't take long. so far havent heard from dr about if the lap band has been approved of not. went to semiar and turned in all insurance info now just waiting to here from dr. office.. i have no patience
NJDad 173 Posted May 16, 2013 I found that having to wait the 6 months and visit the nutritionist each of those months was a good thing. It made me realize how important all the things I was going to have to change really were. It gave me a few months to let it all sink in that I was really doing it. I know it seems like a long time, but it goes real fast....trust me on that. I honestly wasn't sure i was going to do it until the approval from the insurance company came three weeks before my surgery. Lady Lap Band 71 Posted May 16, 2013 The waiting game is hard! I started the whole process in Dec, 2008 and was not banded until June 2009! 6 months sounds like a long time but it will fly! Good Luck! 1 mamasass reacted to this
