I had the band placed in March of 2009. I lost 80 pounds but have gained 60 of it back. I am glad I found this site for support and to get me back on track.

I'm scheduled to have the surgery on the 24th and I'm new to this site. Is it rude to ask about your journey and what caused you to gain back some of your weight? Just looking to learn from others.

Not rude at all. We all learn from each other's journey.

It is not rude at all. After my surgery I found substitute foods that would go through my band. Such as ice cream, I have never liked ice cream as much as I do now. Also popcorn. Popcorn is really easy for me to eat. In my mind the calories even out because I am not eating big meals, but that is why I am where I am!! I need to start keeping track of my calories and my Protein.

I do not feel good if i eat anything before 11am so I need to just make sure I am drinking a Protein Drink in the morning.

I know you will do great and will learn for the honesty on this site!

I am right there with you. I had the lap band back in 2009 and lost 60 pounds within 3 months. I have gained 50 of it back. Unfortunately I also found the loop holes like drinking while I eat to wash it down so I can eat more. Now i'm struggling with breaking that habbit again.

So today I am re-starting my journey. I am on liquids today and tomorrow to see if I can get my stomach to not hold quite so much. After that, I will go to mushies for a day or two and slowly add back higher Protein foods and set my drink FAR FAR away from me during meal time.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I would love to hear them. :) I may start a topic to see if we can generate some responses on how people got "back in the game".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
