Approval and Date!

Recommended Posts

WoooooHoooooo! Well, it looks like June 14th is my surgery date! I had hoped for April 12th while the kids are on vacation but it just didn't work out that way; so I have to wait until summer vacation. That's ok, I thought I'd be bummed out, but I'm just glad to have a date! I had prayed that if it was right, I would get that April date; didn't get it, so it wasn't right!! ;)

Big problem, thou ~ I've been eating like there's no tomorrow! I thought I had just a week until pre-surgury diet, now I have 2 months! OK, the buck (and the venison!) stops here!

Is it true that Protein helps gear the body up for healing? I want to take advantage of these two months and do whatever I can to be as ready as possible. Anyone have any "I wish I had thought to do this before surgery" ideas? I know, I know, a pedicure is already on the list! Ha!

Anyway, I really want to say that I love this board and I have found everyone to be sooo helpful and understanding. Everyone is very straight forward, telling it like it is, and not ENABLEING like some boards are!

Thanks!

Take care!

Debra

Hi Debra,

Congratulations on your approval and surgery date. Believe me, June will be here before you know it.

I think that visiting this site daily was the best thing I did to prepare for LapBand surgery. The other smart move was to make sure I had all my groceries ahead of time. My Protein (a selection is nice because you do get tired of the same thing day in and day out), herbal teas, sugar free Tang, broths, etc. By the time I got to full liquids and purees I was feeling better and was able to go shopping.

Try to remember that everyone's experience is their own and each of us is different. I was so prepared to bounce back quickly, but I had more pain than I thought I would and actually had to make myself slow down and rest because I really wasn't feeling as good as I thought I would. I look back now and realize that rest was the best thing and I felt better with each passing day.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Good Luck!;)

Hi Debra,

I am so glad for you!! I think that I have the April 12th date that you wanted:( However, I wanted the 5th, and that wasn't to be.

I haven't got my pre-surgery "diet", yet. I meet with the nutritionist on Saturday.

Are you going to the support group meeting for Dr. Deol's patients on April 6th?? I am looking forward to meeting and talking to people that have already had the surgery---face to face:)

Keep in touch and congrats!!

Greta

At the rate I am going, I will NEVER get a surgery date!

I have a ton of stuff still to do, feels like I am walking in circles!

I am hoping by middle of April I will have everything dotted and t's crossed so I can tell Dr. Deol that I am all done. I am hoping for a surg. date in May!

Please keep your fingers crossed!;)

Baileym

Still running through the mill of tests!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
