I have not read anything on hamburger in these forums. It seems to be chicken and fish mostly. Is hamburger a problem food for most or is it just a coincidence that I have not noticed any postings about? I was just wondering before I end up trying it when I get my band. Thanks

I don't personally tolerate beef well post banding, but I've never been a big beef eater to begin with. I will on rare occasion eat a bit of chopped steak at a restaurant, but the dry texture is a problem for me.

If you mean a HAMBURGER hamburger with bun and the whole 9 yards, no way, nah uh, not happening. I don't do bread at all, and I can't see the point in all the fat and calories.

I have had a chopped steak but only ate about 2 oz.. you have to make sure it has moistness.. I had some mushroom Soup on it.. I have also eaten sirloin steak but very small pieces and chew, chew , chew.. I do eat fish and chicken (dark meat) more than beef... I doubt I could eat a big mac even if I wanted it...

I actually eat ground beef a lot. I make things like mostaccioli, spaghetti, casseroles, tacos, etc. I just use lean cuts (90% lean) and make sure it's really moist. As long as it's not dry I don't have any problems with it.

i just prefer ground turkey its healthier. dont think i would have a problem with hamburger just a choice i make.

I eat lean ground beef at least two times a week. I seem to do well with ground meats; better than with chicken......which I used to love. I like ground turkey, but only if it's cooked in something. I find (like today) if I eat a straight turkey patty, it grosses me out.

Slab meat isn't allowed on my plan until a year post-op. I guess they want us to be REALLY trained on the small bites chewed to a pulp :P

I have a hard time eating it, it might just be too dry, but I usually have problems, then again, I'm doing the really low fat kind that has little fat to keep it moist :)

i eat lean beef 3 or 4 days a week

alot of Protein and many ways to make it..

I have burgers all the time. No rolls but I add cheese. Where I shop they have 4 oz sliders.

Having the butcher grind it a second time is a really good idea! Sometimes, the grind I get from the meat case is pretty coarse. I haven't had any real issues, but I've noticed it just being more difficult to chew. And I always choose the leanest cut, which makes it even more difficult. I miss having that bit of juicy fat running out my my burger :P

I eat ground beef weekly, but like Mis said, I use it as an ingredient, not straight up cooked as a hamburger patty. I make chili, spaghetti sauce and taco meat, use the 92% lean or higher and I make sure to break it up really well when it's cooking. Another trick to keep it "healthier" is to rinse the ground beef after it cooks with hot Water. A dietitian told me about doing that years ago and I've done it ever since.

I am approaching my three year anniversary and have never had problems with it.

Just like any other food, chew well and take small bites and it shouldn't cause you any trouble.

I eat it as a patty and as an ingredient. Meatloaf is easy on my band. I spice hamburger meat up for different uses. I'll flavor a lb with sausage spices to use in my morning omelletes or cumin to make taco salads.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
