I'm 3 and a half weeks post band and although at first I lost about 13lbs I was always starving. Once I realized I could eat whatever I wanted without any problem I started doing so. I've gained about 8 lbs back. I'm so dissappointed with myself and the outcome of this surgery this far, I'm depressed and don't know what to do. I see my dr nxt Tuesday and I will get my first fill then and I'm hoping that will give me the restriction I need as I also hope to get the green light to start exercising, which I haven't done in about two months.

Has this happened to anybody? How and when did it turn around for you?

Give it time. I just had my surgery in November and it will all balance out....trust me!

I know it is easier said than done but the first step is to heal.

The presurgery diet weight loss is mostly water... I lost about 13 pounds in under two weeks, which is almost impossible to do if you figure the number of calories involved. In the weeks after surgery the weight came back on. It wasn't until the third fill when I started losing the weight. I did have to join a gym to help burn off some of the calories. Everyone is different... you may need more fills to find your green zone.

Just because you can eat whatever you want doesn't mean you should. This part of the journey requires self control..your body is healing and your newly sewn pouch does not need the added stress of too much food. It may take many fills until you reach some kind of restriction and until you do it's up to you to stick to your portion and let your body heal properly. There's no reason to be disappointed in the surgery, it will work if you do your part, it really will. Best Wishes...

You have to remember that the band's job isn't to physically stop you from eating anything. I understand you're newly banded but you can't rely on the band to be your self control. The band is there to allow you to be satisfied on much less food for longer periods of time not stop you from eating things you shouldn't. This is exactly why it's so important to stick to band sized portions.

Have a look at this link, I think it will help considerably: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes

I'm only on day 5 post-op, but I agree completely with the feeling of being able to eat whatever I want. I feel that I can, but I'd be terrified to try it. I'm sticking to my 1/2 cup portions of purée food every 2-3 hours, even though I know I could physically eat plenty more (heck sometimes my stomach growls 20 minutes after a meal). My doctor told me that the first 4-6 weeks to focus on healing, if you lose great, if not there will be plenty of time to lose once you're completely healed.

I'd just be honest and talk to your doctor and maybe ask his suggestions on what to do. Personally I'm too afraid to eat more than I'm allowed (even though I KNOW that I physically can), because its just not worth the risk of messing up the surgery. I'd have to go into the witness protection program if I had to tell my wife that I messed up and wasted that 13,000 dollars we just spent! Lol

Good luck!! Be honest with your doc/dietician, they can help you!

Maybe I'm crazy, but being self pay definitely kept me on track. Of all the reasons I've had success, the first thought I have is that I didn't pay all this money to fail. LOL Try to stick to the plan, especially early on when your body is healing. You'll be glad you did to avoid any complications. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
