Over indulging in alcohol can start a series of projectile vomiting which could easily cause your band to slip. It's not advisable and I've only heard of one other here who over imbibed and got sick.

You should want to give up any activities that could lead you to an incident where you could be hungover and or vomiting. Giving up mass quantities of alcohol was a very easy decision for me.

I drink. Sometimes a lot if I'm out. I did have a time early on when I drank WAY too much and trying to vomit aggravated my band so now I'm very very careful not to get to that point again. But I have and do drink. Enough to dance in tables but not enough to need to be carried out of the building, if you know what I mean.

And hangovers with the band are like hangovers without - they all suck. The difference is you probably won't be able to just eat greasy food because dehydration will make your band tight for a few days.

I started to type a reply to this post, then before I posted it I decided it best to delete it......

This forum, is comprised of people just starting out....struggling....still a long way to go with their weight loss....many stating that they're failures..(many will be)...and so on....

and just learning how to live with the band....

In order to be successful one has to be strict with oneself....and learn how to "Listen" to their band...know it inside out....get into the green.

There is a New Lifestyle with the band...one that will carry you for the rest of your life...but you have to "Learn" it now in the beginning....

I have learned this new lifestyle, my Band and I communicate very well, to the point I don't have to think about what I am doing anymore.....it would shock many people if I told them the things I can do at this point, and still not ever worry about gaining weight ever again....

But this site is made up of people who are not ready to hear that kind of stuff yet...they still have a ways to go...you can easily see it by the questions posted here....

Sometimes I see a question and I think: "If you have to ask.....then you're not ready for the answer" That may be why many people eventually leave this site, not much left here for them to learn....

As far a "Partying" and similar topics, just know there is a life AFTER you complete this journey....one most people would not understand or believe at their place of weight loss, and you first have to get through the initial phases first.....

I do things most people here would not understand....and my Surgeon knows full well, I tell him everything...but I'm no longer TRYING to get there....I am there...."I'm Finished"

Now I can get back to living my (new) normal life....and that is what is waiting for people here...IF you want to learn...

I drink but not like I used too. My band simply will not allow me too. I love margaritas and rum. I never over indulge because I'm not trying to throw up. I now drink one glass of wine every other day or so. No hard liquor. Thank you lapband. It was a habit that needed to be kicked.

sometimes one has to make the decision to take care of oneself over anything else...drinking til one vomits is wrong and stupid....but def enjoy yourself...just be mindful that with the lap band. in my eyes, some things are just not worth the risk

I used to drink more when I was much younger, but now a beer here or there or a mix is all I ever do. I do notice though that since I eat less to absorb the alcohol I feel tipsy quicker than I did prebanding.

I drink and sometimes more than others. I only got sick one time, but thank God it was easy and it was more due to motion sickness in the car. When you do decide to take that drink, just listen to your body. You will definitely get more tipsy sooner than you did before. I watch for the signs now. Also, I dont drink as fast as used to, so now my drinks last longer, I'm a cheaper date, and I enjoy being tipsy not drunk.

I'm the same. A glass of wine and I'm done, and feel tipsy after that. No more hard liquor for me either.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
