gumbo1971 6 Posted May 10, 2013 I'm pre-op just went to my consultation this week, but as of now i don't have a comorbidity. I'm concerned that i can't get the surgery. My tests results have been forwarded to the predetermination department for preapproval. Has anyone heard of this. My bmi is high but that's all.
Sharpie 3,306 Posted May 10, 2013 From what I understand if your bmi is 40 or higher you should be approved.. but, the guidelines have changed for lapband so I'm not positive... your Dr's office should know .. My Surgeon's office told me I would be approved right away, my bmi was 37 but I had diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. 2 dylanmiles23 and PrettyThick1 reacted to this

DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted May 10, 2013 Every insurance company has their own set of rules. Many don't require a comorbidity if your BMI is over 40. Hopefully yours is one. 2 dylanmiles23 and PrettyThick1 reacted to this

mrsto 2,925 Posted May 10, 2013 I was approved the first time. My BMI was close to 41, and I had a very mild case of hypertension. Also - reflux. I'm not sure which thing got me approved quickly, or if it was a combo of everything. But I'm only 6 weeks out and already off the blood pressure meds. I'm insured through Anthem Blue Cross. 1 PrettyThick1 reacted to this
Chris_tina83 37 Posted May 10, 2013 My BMI was over 40 too, but I'm as healthy as can be. I was approved right away also. Seminar day was March 1, surgery day April 26..I have anthem blue cross.. 1 mrsto reacted to this

I'm VERY happy with Anthem. We had Blue Shield last year, but I have to say that Anthem has been better. My blood pressure issue was so mild; it would shoot up only upon exertion....which was discovered during a stress test. They put me on the lowest dose of hypertensive meds because of it, and I'm SO glad they did. If it weren't for a diagnosis in my records of hypertension, I don't know that the surgery approval would have gone through without a hitch.

You mentioned a "high" BMI, if you are over 40, you won't be turned down.
PrettyThick1 1,860 Posted May 10, 2013 you have depression from it right?? tell your Dr That could be risky on the psych evaluation...I don't think I would try that.
