I wanted to get some advice from those that have been through the post op process. My surgery was Monday. Today, I'm having a hard time swallowing (but I can get liquids down) and my chest hurts. It hurts to take deep breaths (in the area of my diaphragm) and at times I get a sharp pain in the middle of my chest. Is this trapped gas? I went for a walk which made my shoulder hurt. Is this the process of getting the gas out? Thanks!

Did you have a hernia repair too?

No, I didn't have a hernia repair. Kind of feels like I did though!

I had my lap band done Tuesday. The pain is almost unreadable. First night home all I did was walk and tap my chest like a baby's back. It's all trapped air causing gas. Walk and tap. It'll come out. Get some chewable gas-X tablets. They really help. My surgeon said it was ok to take.

The gas pains are perfectly normal. Take the advice of the post banisters, walk, walk and walk some more. Move your arms up and down as well. The trapped gas hurts but it will go away.

It sounds crazy, but flap your "wings" like you're doing the chicken Dance. It will help disperse some of the gas. If the pain doesn't go away in a week or so, consult with your surgeon.
