I NEED A NEW LAP BAND FILL DOCTOR.

Recommended Posts

After a 1 year 1/2 hiatus I need to go back and get a band fill. I called my doctors office number and I find out she left the office about 1 year ago. They did send a letter about a year ago but apparently it does happen "it got lost in the mail" to let me know she was leaving. The receptionist said they are referring a new doctor but he is about a 11/2 hour drive. I know there are closer doctors then that. The only bad thing is that now I have to do research on a new doctor. The receptionist did say they still have all my records but I would have to sign release blah blah blah...

My main concern to ask everyone out here is,

Is anyone an adoption case?

Did you switch doctors after you had your lap-band installed?

what type of questions does the new doctor ask?

any issues with your insurance from the switch?

any issues from a doctor point?

What would you of done different?

Call your insurance company and find out which bariatric doctors in your area they cover. Call said doctors and ask if there are any "transfer fees," etc to become a patient. Because you are moving on to your second doctor, I would be thorough in finding out how their practice is run, how patients are treated, etc. During my time on these boards, I have read of many people switching surgeons post-op, some for the obvious reason the doctor relocated, some because they had surgery elsewhere, and others because they found after surgery their doctor's bedside manner/availability did not provide the support they needed.

good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
