Brussels Sprouts - Soft Foods?

Recommended Posts

I love these forums.....SO many different post-op instructions...

I love brussel sprouts' date=' but I'm not allowed to have veggies and (most) fruits until I'm 8-12 weeks post-op. I've questioned this at my office visits, and they say that because we can't drink with meals, veggies cause a lot of gas sitting in the stomach. I am allowed bananas, avocados and apple sauce, but nothing else from the "garden". I told them that I feel REALLY unhealthy not having greens & fresh fruit. But they tell me that it's setup that way for a reason. But I really like reading all the other protocols. Honestly, the other night I made a frozen Atkins meal; chicken with broccoli. My plan was to eat the chicken & toss the greens. Well, some of that broccoli made it onto my fork, and I was FINE. No gas.....no pain, nada. I've been pretty diligent with my program; not perfect, but good. But I'm not sure I can hang another 4-8 weeks without some veggies. I'm totally okay not eating Cookies and crap, but this piece of the puzzle makes no sense to me.

Has anyone else's doctor told them to hold off for 8-12 weeks on veggies? At the 8 week mark, I can have very soft cooked ones; but they give a list. Then at 12 weeks I can have the rest, including salad. I never thought I'd be craving fricken salad!! :P[/quote']

8-12 weeks without veggies WOW! I am mid mushy stage (less than two weeks post surgery) and am able to have blended veg. Soup. Later this week soft (well cooked veggies!). That sound rough!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
