Mine realy was no big deal..I fretted over it prior but it was fine... she just asked about my weight pretty much my whole life. When did I first notice I was heavy how heavy was I at this time ..what have I tried.. What works.. what doesn't... and why etc.. they are mainly looking to make sure u don't have any unrealistic expectations like dropping 100 lbs in first month or being able to eat crap all day and still loose weight bc u have a magic band... :-)

Mine was pretty basic actually. She asked about my support system, family history and reasons why I wanted the surgery. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. I would just be honest and open- they are there to help. Good luck!

Mine was pretty much the same as above. Pretty much just a general conversation and making sure I understood the commitment for a life change. Don't worry they're not probing to see if you're crazy or anything. I agree honestly is the best and you will only benefit from it.

Mine was simple as well for the most part. Basic questions about being heavy and reasons I overate. Stress and it's role in eating.

With the new report out citing the relationship between bariatric surgeries and completed suicides, psych exams should be looking for signs that the pre-op patient is open to consulting post op should suicidal thoughts occur. The psychiatrist I saw prior to my surgery asked me outright if I was the personality type to seek help should I feel despondent after surgery (due to slow loss, or inability to adapt to my changing shape/attention etc).

The psych evaluation is easy breezy. Just a questionnaire with 344 redundant questions, a chit chat with the psychologist and you're on your way. They billed my insurance $1085.00 - I think I'm in the wrong business...she racked up that day, there were 5 other people there for the same reason. If she has that volume every day, my God...I need to change careers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
