How long have you been banded? There are many home remedies for hiccups and different things work for different people. A hiccup is caused by your diaphram spasming. Sometimes from eating or drinking to fast. Honestly though I can get the hiccups with no food or beverage in site. As to whether it can hurt your band, I really don't know. But I feel for you, I know they can be a real drag. I've had them once since being banded and fortunately I was able to drink enough Water fast enough to get rid of them. Good luck

I get them too and quite often. It's annoying and embarassing. I'm a consultant for payroll and accounting software and I'm either in training with professionals or in meetings with management. People are all looking to me for advice or solutions and I'm up there "hi-cup'ing"... it's not pretty at all. Also, mine happen even when not eating so I know it's not just eating too fast.

I've tried holding my breath - kinda works. But drinking doesn't - it ususally hurts....

Anyone else have tips... I've browsed the other hiccup threads and there's really not a lot of tips for people.

I have always been told by doctors that most hicups are caused by a low amount of oxygen in the blood by not breathing deeply. The drinking Water, and scaring someone, and holding your head underwater, and all of those funky remedies are ways to take a deep breath, or to hold your breath. basically most hicups can be cured by a series of breath holds after very deep breaths.

Now with the band being close to the diaphram, it could be that it is causing the diaphram to spasm due to irritation. This is a different situation entirely as just holding your breath won't really do much for it. Try some stretching, or lay down for a while so that it gives your diaphram some time to relax. maybe that will help it.

My mom takes very shallow breaths and tries to relax her lungs. This cures her every time. This doesn't work for me. However, if I can manage to get down exactly 10 sips of Water without stopping for breath then it ALWAYS gets rid of them for me. I find that now that I'm banded, getting 10 sips in a row is sometimes difficult. Just another form of holding your breath I guess, but it does work for me. :-) Good luck... I hate the hiccups!

Lack of oxygen is what causes yawning, not hiccups. Various things can cause your diaphram to spasm. It is not that you need air. Deep breaths and Water cause the diaphram to stretch, thereby helping the spasms to stop.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
