When will I lose weight? Frustrated!!

Recommended Posts

:help: My surgery was in Monterrey, Mexico with Dr. Rodriguez. I went back for a fill and still no restriction. First day, had nothing, called him before my flight took off and he put in a little more. He informed me that I would be back because of too much restriction. He told me he put in total 5 cc's. Not sure if there is a language barrier, however another doctor and when reading in the manual the 9.75cm and 10cm bands only hold a max of 4 cc's of saline. I still have no restriction except for:

the half dozen incidents of getting food stuck what felt like my chest but probably more like the opening of my stomach?

I went to Mexico because I wasn't obese but needed to lose about 30 pounds. Very important to me as I have been chubby all my life and my self esteem is very low. I was called fatty by my sister since I was 9 or 10 and that has never left me. I figured this would help and after spending all my money doing this, I am now scared that perhaps I wasted my money because I have not even lost 1 pound.

Any suggestions? Don't ask me if I have been eating correctly because if I could do that I would'nt be in the situation I am in.

Thank you to all in advance. :help:

I went to the same doc as you for the same reason as you, not obese per say just had some extra lbs that I couldnt lose on my own. I have lost about 14lbs in 5wks without a fill so far, I go for my first one next week. wht i was told is that the less you have to lose the more fills you will need in order to drop the lbs. Everybody is different, i had the same fears that I wouldnt lose anything and have spent all that money. Give it some time I'm sure your body will adjust and start to drop some lbs.

well i know you dont want to be asked what your eating, but it does play a factor. You can not loose weight if your eating to much junk food etc. So what are you eating and how much?

next, that golfball feeling in your chest right above your stomach is where the band is. That *IS* your restiction. You want to stop eating at that point. Restriction is NOT that "i felt like i just ate thanksgiving dinner" feeling.

Being smaller the weight will come off slower. I have the big band and I didnt start losing weight really seriously until about 5 mths into banding when I finally got some decent restriction. It took 8 or 9 fills and 9.6mls for me. Be patient, something I am not good at, it will happen.

Hugs

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
