Question - How long would you let "stuck" conditions last

Recommended Posts

I am still getting stuck- had my last fill on April 25.

I need help in understanding......some days I can eat fine while others I can't seem to keep anything down.

Any experience in this would be appreciated.

"I can't seem to keep anything down"

Do you mean you're barfing food or slime or what? Getting stuck is not so much about keeping food down, stuck means your pouch or esophogus has too much food and is struggling to massage it through the stoma. It can come from eating too quickly, eating while distracted, not chewing enough, eating very dry meats and so on.

Stuck episodes typically last for 30-60 minutes and for newbies it's very common. It takes so long to learn how to eat with the band. I've pretty much figured it out but it's not uncommon for me to still get stuck a couple times a week.

So many things affect your stomach where the band is. It's simply a muscle and can tighten up due to swelling from sodium, TOM, allergies, medications and stuck episodes can cause enough trauma to create quite a bit of swelling.

One last comment. I was in the green zone and I knew it. But I kept getting stuck too much. I had some Fluid removed and then could eat more than I should. I now know I just did not know how to eat with the band.

I think "stuck" is learning how to eat. We have to learn to eat with the band. Being stuck is a learning process. I have been stuck almost daily. At times it is stuck for a minute and other times for 30. Some days I can eat almost anything while other days I have difficult time with everything. I actually really am appreciating the learning process because I truly believe the way we eat added to our weight problem in the first place. I really cannot wait until eating is no longer an issue on any level. It will be a blessing to just live without having to address food issues. Good Luck to you!

I really appreciate you alls comments - this really helped I have had people just tell me that's needed to get ccs taken out but I think it is more education and me learning.

The main thing is I just cough up slime (I know gross) some episodes are worse than others .... i just need to take it slow I guess.... I am so glad to hear others experience this and I am not doing it wrong.

LOL..I remember the first few times I had a stuck/sliming episode. I was so happy because I knew the band was starting to work. Oh, I was miserable for a few minutes and it did slow me down and made me rethink how I eat but I knew my real journey was beginning

Distraction is my enemy. Watching TV and eating, or gobbling food down too quickly or too big because I'm too hungry or the smell of the food is overwhelming is how I get stuck a lot.

You should post your weight loss so far? Create a weight loss ticker so we know more about you?

I don't know how to do the weight loss ticker - can you do it via the app?

I guess during this transition phase I just am concerned I am not getting enough to eat -- and I am going to always have a sore throat if I keep this up.

A little about me

Surg Date 12/19/12

Starting weight 264

Current weight 5/6/13 225

5.3 ccs full of a 10cc band

For ME, those "stuck" episodes were a learning process. I wasn't following the "rules" of living with a properly (for me) adjusted band. I still wanted to eat like I did pre-band. I need the band to help with Portion Control. I can't/don't do a very good job of limiting portions....never have, hence starting this process at 324 lbs. So that discomfort of being stuck several times early on, made me learn those rules. The ones that were preached to me, given to me in many, many handouts. Handouts and preaching didn't work....my properly adjusted band DID/DOES work. You can read on here every day from folks who go for an adjustment because "I'm eating too much", "not losing weight", "hungry all the time", "discouraged at my success", "failing my band", etc, etc. Then, after an adjustment, go back for an unfill because they're getting stuck occasionally. Thats the good thing about this WLS, it's adjustable. But, maybe they just need some time to adjust??? Best wishes for your continued success! :)

I was just wondering if you got stuck when your band was less full. I have 3cc in a 10cc and I can eat anything and I know it is silly but I would welcome being stuck just once to know that the band is working for me.

We were banded the same day, so we are pretty much at the same spot in this journey. Since my last fill (#3) I've gotten stuck more than a few times. It's almost always within the first few bites and I know as soon as I swallow its going to happen. I just didn't chew enough.

Last night it was dinner time conversation that distracted. So I had to wait until the band decided what was going to happen while everyone else finished their meal. A lil frustrating - yes. But I'm not going for an unfill as I know all my stuck episodes have been because of me not chewing enough.

I feel like I'm getting close to green zone. Just have to pay a lil more attention and I'll be there.

Best wishes to you in find it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
